Hi, looking for an opinion please. Housing association tenant with cracked toilet bowl. They sent someone to replace it and this is how they left it with interior of soil pipe exposed, wobbly toilet pan fixed with 3 wood screws and nothing in 4th hole in base of toilet pan. Faint sewage smell in bathroom when I walk in.they are trying to say there is nothing wrong with the base but also where the toilet pan connector meets the soil pipe. I need advice on what to say in the complaint I need to make and would be so grateful if people could loom and give opinions. Thank you.

I would class that as an insanitary installation which should be condemned. Ask the landlord to send a proper plumber along to get it right 1st time. Who actually did the job, a bodge-it-all know-nothing?

I need to be able to say exactly what is wrong, what parts should be usedetc as the peoole at the housing association who deal with repairs bookings and complaints are non-technical/non-tradespeople. Thank you very much for your help. I tried to raise it but think I got fobbed off as I am female and didn't know the correct terms.

I am a housing association tenant and so they have contractors who are now claiming it was a sub-contractor who did it

That is a bodge. Looks like they've used the wrong size soil pipe adaptor, the pan isn't screwed down with the correct fixings and it's not siliconed to the floor.

Exactly what I thought but it hasn't stopped the contractor phoning me today to remonstrate with me. I told him to go through the correct channels with the HA but they aren't tradespeople so I need to be able to tell the HA exactly what is wrong withthe fitting.

I work in social housing on gas now but formerly plumbing and that is appalling. I can't see evidence of the fins that help create a seal (preventing smells) and the screws look like ordinary zinc plated, which will soon rust. Not to mention they're too small and will work loose.

Ask to speak with the maintenance manager and see if they will take a look.

Unfortunately I don't think that's been done by a plumber, but a "mulit-skilled" person and I use that term loosely as we employ similar now since our plumbers went onto gas work.

A sub-contractor who did a sub-par job. It seems you've posted this twice I'll see if admin can merge the 2 threads
