Looking for some advice on what to do about old heating system

Thanks. I remember speaking to the service engineer previously and he advised against a power flush on this case because it may basically blow out fittings on the pipework. He instead said I should run a cleanser through it. I might try and get that done, is there any risk of aggravating further...

Looking for some advice on what to do about old heating system

Thanks all for the advice. I'm working away at the moment so can't test myself, I'm going to have a think about it today and might get the wife to phone up the boiler insurance and see if they'll send someone out. As stated previously my only worry with this is if they either condemn it or do...

Looking for some advice on what to do about old heating system

OK, thanks for checking. Is this something I could work around ie fit some sort of generic/alternative model. I guess the only thing that could go wrong with the HE is it clogs up? Therefore a chemical bath could sort it out? As you can probably guess, central heating is not my area of...

Looking for some advice on what to do about old heating system

To be honest I'm worried about them condemning the boiler. Then I'm really goosed. Don't get me wrong, if/when it stops working I'll get them out but I figured that whike it's still technically working I can't really get them out.

Looking for some advice on what to do about old heating system

Thanks both for the reply. I'd be more than happy to spend a few hundred quid and see if extends the life of the boiler for even a few months. I'm a little wary of starting to even test the boiler at this stage in case I accelerate the problems before Xmas and end up with no heating (ie...

Looking for some advice on what to do about old heating system

As the title says I'm just looking for some advice on what people who know more about this type of thing than I do would do. I have an open vented heating system. It's a baxi solo 2 (I think) pf heat only boiler and separate cylinder. The system is about 19-20 years old (I've only been in the...

Bad condensation (?) on underside of roof

Here is an old picture of my roof which shows what I assume is the vents. I take it that the vents had been fitted but no cutout below then made

Bad condensation (?) on underside of roof

Hi, I have had a roofer out and he has said the problem is that there is vents fitted to my roof but there has never been a cutout made to actually air to flow from the loft out the vents. He is going to make this cutout. I'll see if this solves the problem

Bad condensation (?) on underside of roof

Thanks all for the replies. Especially Ken for providing that level of detail. I'm not sure if there's any ventilation in the loft as is. Definitely no fans etc. I'm going to get someone out to have a look and increase ventilation if it's required. Someone mentioned that "it can run " what...

Bad condensation (?) on underside of roof

Thanks for the reply. It's the scale of the wetness that's concerning me, a little bit of condensation wouldn't bother me but the place is pretty wet, the insulation is wet from the dripping. There's no pooling of water but it's clearly been a very heavy drip. In terms of insulation in the...

Bad condensation (?) on underside of roof

Hi all I was just up in the loft there and noticed the underside of my roof is very wet, especially as you move away from centre. I've took a picture but not sure how much help it will be. Does anybody have any idea what can cause this sort of thing or how big a fix it is? I guess it could...

Hi all I have some very basic questions about re varnishing my living room and kitchen window ledges. These have become terrible looking from the kids using them as roads for toy cars! I have attached a picture of the window ledge. I understand it'll be impossible to say exactly what colour...

Hi all I'm planning on sprucing up my bathroom a little, part of this will be overlaying the tiled floor with vinyl. As part of this I want to fill in the gaps between tiles to give a level surface. I posted on here before about how is the best way to do this. The replying had was self...

Bleeding pump and replacing bleed screws

Hi thanks for the replies. Are these bleed screws normally a standard size or does it generally vary? Yeah I know I shouldn't need to bleed so much but I keep getting air trapped particularly in my cylinder coil I think, it's been ever since I had the system drained down , it's a separate...

Bleeding pump and replacing bleed screws

Hi all, 2 quick questions about bleeding CH systems. I have an open vented system and have been having to bleed it a fair bit recently. On my cylinder and 1 radiator the screw that you loosen to bleed has become a bit mangled and I'm struggling to both loosen and re tighten them. I'd like to...

How to check if cylinder coil is leaking?

Thanks for getting back to me, for my own understanding can you tell me please why it won't be the coil and why it's a bad setup? The system was drained because I had 2 rads in the living room (furthest point from boiler) that weren't heating up, basically the system got drained, the rads were...
