    Fluorescent batten starter

I have to agree with this. We are having similar issues at work. Around 5 years ago the whole installation (roughly 200 5' single & twin fittings) was bulk replaced with IP65 LED battens. These started failing after a couple of years. At first we purchased the same fitting & swapped the gear...

What's this cover outside house? Water or something else?

I can confirm that "SDW" = South Derbyshire Water. I have the same one outside my house. The current day supplier is SevernTrent Water.

3 phase 11 and 22kw - Current in Each Phase??

Did you read post #7 ???? :sneaky:

3 phase 11 and 22kw - Current in Each Phase??

For a 3 phase motor, started direct-on-line, you can expect the starting current to be in the region of 6 times the motor rating plate current (ie. 6 x full-load-current)

3 phase 11 and 22kw - Current in Each Phase??

22kW & 11kW are standard IEC motor sizes. If the OP is trying to determine the current for such motors then our methods above are too simplistic. The formulae that we have all used assumes a balanced resistive three phase load (ie. pf = unity hence kW=KVA & efficiency = 100%). This method...

3 phase 11 and 22kw - Current in Each Phase??

    22kW = 22/3 = 7.33kW per phase. At 230V 7.33 kW requires 7330/230 = 31.88A. So 22kW = 32A per phase.

Bathroom extractor fans letting in so much cold air

And if you fit it..... you'll regret it the first windy night when is banging open & closed all night.... You'll be ripping it out in the morning! Spend the cash & buy a fan with an electrically operated shutter!

    Dealing with voltage drop

Yeah, but then it takes off..... If the low voltage causes the SMPS's to pull more current...... then the bigger current leads to a greater volt drop............

2 Amp round pin plug wired to trailing socket?

Back in my Uni days (oh my THAT long ago!) we had 2A 3 pin sockets in the Halls of Residence. Each room had two sockets & they were grouped, I think, 4 rooms onto a 5A MCB. This was back in the late 1980s (!!!!!!!!) so no big PC setups, large screen TVs etc. The room came 'complete' with an...

Today we had a generator instead of the grid serving us

On the MV & upward network exist numerical protection relays. These are too expensive to justify use on anything below about 33kV. A protection relay can be considered, in simple terms, as a sophisticated programmable "fuse". As well as clever over current protection they can often be configured...

    immersion heater for central heating?

Well you could, but I think you're gonna be disappointed with the performance. An immersion heater is 3kW. Your oil boiler - you'd have to tell us what size it is but probably in the regions of 15 - 20kW.....

    Motor rating plate

Definitely! For my "day job" my employer builds & ships educational equipment to many countries, including the Philippines. Our standard config is 220V single phase & 220V L-L 3 phase for the Philippines. We are spoilt here in the UK in that we've all grown up with a system where is...

    Motor rating plate

220V L-L supplies do exist. This Philippines, for example, has delta supply - 3 phase & ground. A 'single' phase supply is two legs of the 3 (ie. no NEUTRAL, both legs are ungrounded) so double pole switching is needed. It takes a bit of getting your head around, since the single phase...

    Motor rating plate

Exactly .... a common way to supply a small (upto about 3HP) 3 phase induction motor is to take a 'standard' three phase motor, which expects 400V L-L in STAR config & flip into DELTA - the motor is then good for 220V L-L. There are a considerable number of VFDs on the market that take in 230V...

    Lamp post timer.

The first electric streetlights were switched by hand - the former gaslighters did it. Next came the solar dial time clock These are quite clever mechanical time switches which had the ability to automatically change the switch ON & switch OFF times to match the changing times of sunrise &...

    Fluorescent light fire, how?

Have you looked closely at some of the more modern addressable systems? They can get quite clever, for example, with our system at work some zones run as heat only detection during the day but, when the intruder alarm is set at night, then they change to smoke detection as well.

    Fluorescent light fire, how?

Another scenario I've seen a few times..... A failing lamp is ignored. The starter keeps trying to start the failed lamp, the lamp blinks & tries to start many many times. Eventually the starter fails short. The heaters in the lamp now run permanently with just the choke acting as a current...

Is there a kitchen extractor fan that does not need outlet?

It can't. It doesn't. It wont. The active carbon filter will trap some of the odours... for a while. The water vapour will come straight back out again. You will be disappointed with how "well" it works - bite the bullet, do it properly, & vent it to outside.

    Pyronix V2 GSM dialer

There is no problem 'power cycling' the dialer - it won't lose its settings. I never did find a solution. Even a technical query to Pyronix never got a working solution (other than power cycling). I no longer own that property so not a current problem ;)
