    Help needed with garage electrics

Being sensible, I would put a 2 way metal CU into the garage. Metal one to future proof. Put it near the ev charger or where cables enter the garage. It must have an RCD. 6A mcb for lights 16 or 20A for sockets. Should you want to use the ev charger in the future you can talk to a spark. But...

RCBO tripping - identify likely location - help.......

If neutrals were looped at the switches, wouldn’t that avoid having to get up a ladder? (Except maybe, the room with the fault ?)

Ring vs Radial circuit, what would you do?

Modern ways Seam to only like one cable per mcb (except rings). If someone has gone to the trouble of running a cable all the way back to the CU it may as well be on its own mcb. (Is the thinking)

RCBO tripping - identify likely location - help.......

I don't think he has an RCBO to hand. I guess he could use the other one, on the other light circuit if he wanted to go this way

RCBO tripping - identify likely location - help.......

So you could turn all the power off. Turn off the problem light circuit MCB. Disconnect the light circuit neutral from the bar. Set your multimeter to ohms / 200R where is buzzes when the probes are connected. Measure between earth bar and the light circuit N wire. If you get a reading it's...

Ring vs Radial circuit, what would you do?

So does your CU contain 1 RCD, 2 RCD's or all RCBO's. RCDs and RCBOs can be identified as they have a Test button

    Lighting puzzle

This partly shows the safety ES holder. 1. large collar of insulating material, so you can't touch the metal when running. 2. The metal thread you can see in the picture isn't connect to a phase conduction. It only makes connection when the thread is ~90% in, and by that time, you are unable...

Ring vs Radial circuit, what would you do?

I don’t think you will get an agreement here. You understand downstairs will have benefits of being on a ring and if it’s easy to resolve. Sounds like your having a new cu so plenty of spare ways. As a minimum I would want 20A. Sometimes you can get 25A which would do the kitchen well. So if...

    Lighting puzzle

I always consider the polarity change to be an American thing, so more burgers than Germans. Polarity isn't such a problem on modern ES holders. There are 2 safety features to prevent problems. 1) The metal is enclosed so fingers can't touch it. 2) There are 2 thread rings. The one close to the...
