    Rumbling Pump

It's what was put in when the house was built! They were **** poor - they fitted one radiator at an angle and only on the top hooks!

    Rumbling Pump

I have posted pictures of it as I thought it easier than trying to explain:

    Rumbling Pump

Water is as clean as tap water! I know this because when we had a new 3-port valve fitted last year the plumber had to drain the system and commented on how clean the water coming out was.

    Rumbling Pump

Thanks It's as old as the house so 6 years. Is that old for a pump?

    Rumbling Pump

Noticed recently that the pump for my CH/DHW has started making a rumbling noise when running. It is not constant and not all the time but is quite audible when happening. Is this something to worry about before winter starts or just some air in it or something? Don't want it to pack up...

    Boiler and DHW

My boiler (Potterton Promax HE) and heating system in general has had so many problems I think I sometimes think the worst. I have noticed some behaviour which may be perfectly normal and I just haven't noticed before but may be abnormal so though worth checking. When the CH is on it runs...

Flickering Energy Bulb When Switched Off

I noticed last night that the energy bulb at the top of the stairs in my house flickers (or rather flashes) every few seconds. Not a bright flash - it was very very faint and didn't light the whole bulb, and unless I had been stood right under it in the dark looking in that general direction I...

    Air in System

Thanks. I will check that valve on the end of the bit of vertical pipe in the tank cupboard and see if the plumber tightened it properly when he used it. When he drained the system he commented on how clean the water in it was - it looked like drinking water.

    Air in System

Thanks for the replies. What does this valve actually do? Also, if this is to blame, and as everything is working perfectly, what is the consequence of not doing anything about it? I am happy to bleed the rad every few days until winter is over if need be rather than interfere with what...

    Air in System

I have a Potterton Promax HE system with 3 rads downstairs and 4 upstairs. The bathroom and bottom of stairs are the first to get hot when the heating is on. For a while now I have noticed that there seems to be a lot of air in the system - there is an air/water noise through the pump when...

Potterton Not Firing Without Reset Switch

Boiler is now fixed. Thanks to everyone who offered advice. In case anyone else experiences the same problem, the engineer replaced a couple of parts: - the condensate tray with a new (now modified) part and cleaned out the pipe from it as it was draining really slowly. - the...

Potterton Not Firing Without Reset Switch

Engineer is coming tomorrow afternoon. Is this likely to be an "on the van" item? It was 0C this morning, with tomorrow expected to be sub-zero, so I want this fixed as quickly as possible. Are Potterton a particularly poor/cheap make? I have had all kinds of problems with this system.

Potterton Not Firing Without Reset Switch

New symptom. It just fired (after reset switch), then went out after a few seconds, then fired for a few second, then went out, then fired, and went on like this until I stopped it. Does this indicate anything new? EDIT: After leaving it off again for a while, it fired up using the reset...

Potterton Not Firing Without Reset Switch

Are the things which could be at fault likely to be things a gas engineer would have on his van or be able to get quickly or am I likely to have to wait for parts to be oredred (if needed of course)?

Potterton Not Firing Without Reset Switch

Thanks for the replies. Agile: If this is an ignition lockout what could cause it? ChrisR: What does the flow switch do, and why would it cause this problem? I will call the landlord and get him to send a gas man round (I assume it's a CORGI guy I need as opposed to a plumber) but...

Potterton Not Firing Without Reset Switch

Little bit more infor after observation this evening. In normal operation, the boiler fires, runs for a while, then turns off (but the pump continues). Then a while later, the boiler re-fires, and the sequence repeats. Now this is perfectly normal. However, when the boiler shuts down now...

Potterton Not Firing Without Reset Switch

As of today, my (troublesome) Potterton boiler has started not firing of it's own accord (sometimes at least). The pump and 3 port valve do their stuff, but no ignition. However, if I press the reset button on the front, it fires immediately. When it did it, the DHW was on as well as the...

CH Tripping Electric - Faulty 3-Port Valve?

The whole system is Potterton and has had more problems that I can mention.

CH Tripping Electric - Faulty 3-Port Valve?

Plumber had to order he said and it took about 3 weeks to get it in if I remember correctly. Maybe it was just his supplier?
