hip/gable loft conversion materials cost first fix

I understand that, and i do actually have architect drawings (though not yet structural specs). All i'm looking for is a rough guide as to what i should expect to pay for materials - hence the list in the OP. Why exactly should i be wary of a loft conversion specialist? And what do you mean...

hip/gable loft conversion materials cost first fix

Perhaps i should rephrase my question: - What would be a typical (non-loft company) labour and materials charge for the structural (first fix) part of such a conversion?

hip/gable loft conversion materials cost first fix

I want to convert a semi-detached hipped roof to gable with dormer to first fix; total floor area 5.4m x 5.75m. I've been quoted about 30k from a loft company for labour + materials to first fix. I've not yet had a private builder quotation, but, if using a private builder, I'm trying to...

Potterton Performa 24 leak from bottom of DHW PDV

Fingers crossed; looks like a new diaphragm has done the trick - thanks!

Potterton Performa 24 leak from bottom of DHW PDV

Yep, deffo coming from there, and it's dripping a lot now again (even with HW off) - see pic. I last changed diaphragm about five years ago! Could it be caused by anything other than the diaphragm?

Potterton Performa 24 leak from bottom of DHW PDV

Sorry, not sure what you mean. See fig. 83 (p. 44) here: http://www.potterton.co.uk/docs/Potterton_Performa_24_Eco_HE_Installation_and_Service_Instructions.pdf The water is leaking from the bottom of this unit. Does that make sense? In the past i've had water leak out of the hole where...

Potterton Performa 24 leak from bottom of DHW PDV

Hi guys The other day my boiler started leaking quite badly from the bottom of the DHW PDV. That is, water was almost pouring out for a short time. However water is now only dripping out occasionally. I thought it must be a seal of some sort, but, having opened it up, the only 'seal' i can see...

burner not coming on - potterton performa 24

Somehow looks to have resolved itself! My guess is that thermistor wasn't engaging properly. Anyway all good for now.

burner not coming on - potterton performa 24

Burner had been cycling on and off both on dhw and ch, so i changed thermistor and took out plate HE to check if it was blocked. It looked fine. However, after opening valves and repressurising, the burner is not lighting when i turn on hot water tap (or CH). The boiler also makes a weird...

    more boiler problems!

The weirdest thing happened last night: the problem resolved itself ! The burner no longer cuts out and hence the water stays hot. Am i right in thinking this may indicate a temporary blockage in the PHE (which has now washed itself out)?

    more boiler problems!

Just noticed that the whirring/ticking is happening with the central heating system as well (when DHW not in use). The 'whirring' seems to be the fan kicking in, but then switching off when the burner doesn't ignite.

    more boiler problems!

i just found this post elsewhere: The best solution for blocked plate heat exchangers is powerflushing the system, provided the boiler can withstand fx2. Changing the hex, or only cleaning it, is fairly pointless as the reason it got blocked is crap in the system. If you don't clean the...

    more boiler problems!

Tbh i didn't pay much attention to the appearance of the limescale. The guy first tried with a standard (industrial) limescale remover, which improved the situation, but the water didn't get fully hot. He then came back and used Power Flush FX2 instead, which seemed to clean it properly. Indeed...

pretty sure it's not DV - ch flow pipe stays cold. And PHE was properly cleaned (by a pro) only two months ago!

    more boiler problems!

Hi all Re Potterton Performa 24 combi After getting the PHE cleaned a couple of months ago - it was full of limescale - the water is again not getting properly hot. Problem is as follows: Turn on HW tap, boiler fires up and heats the water. Burner then goes off (as expected), but takes...

How best to hide unused ceiling light cables

Many thanks for this suggestion Iggifer. Once i got the hang of using the multimeter, this was a sinch! Cables now safe (i hope!) and hidden in the void.

How best to hide unused ceiling light cables

I can buy a multimeter, but what should i check for exactly? Would i not still have to remove (or box) the cable?
