So not an invisible repair then?

    Which filler should I use?

Got any pics? How does it look post decoration? I've repaired a few cracks (old house, lathe and plaster) and have dug out a channel deep enough to embed some joining tape, and filled on top. Not had a problem with this method. Have tried before just digging out the crack and filling, but the...

    Party Wall Damage and liability

Just a thought, but if you were to sell your house, I wonder if the surveyor would see the boundary issue and raise it?

Can I butter the wall up for plasterboard?

Worked well where I needed to apply some boards replacing lathe and plaster in a stairwell. Doesn't foam up much, but enough to tap it level.

    Party Wall Damage and liability

Sure an expert will be along shortly but my limited understanding of the pwa is to protect them, and you are in a better position now if you need to claim damage if they didn't issue you one. If you start legal action for this, dont they then have to declare this on the TA6 there's an ongoing...

Uneven gap between floor and skirting boards

That is true, although what floors are truly flat? I recently had parquet laid over a 1920s suspended wooden floor. Entire ground floor. They sanded the floorboards and overlaid with ply first. Over the longer lengths (7 meter rooms), scribing / sanding was necessary when fitting the skirts...

Uneven gap between floor and skirting boards

Don't pay and ask for a proper job. Should not need caulk anywhere. , one should be scribed around the other. They should be scribethat the bottom to match undulations in the floor, ditto cornerd. Was is a handyman called Kettle that fitted these?

What are your plans for your house in 2023?

Prep the stairs to paint (there's around 9 layers of paint and more runs than a cricket match). Then carpet runner and can finally relax. Last remaining eyesore in the house.

    Water coming through Victorian Hallway

What's under the floor? I guess concrete? Where's your water main? Is it original lead buried somewhere? Where's your drains in relation? Adjoining rooms - floor dry?

    Wireless contact sensor?

I don't mean to sound snarky . I'm not looking for suggestions to hide the cable, I just wanted to see if there's a sane priced wireless retrofit. No space behind the architrave, it's tight. The door is also inset so would need more effort and wood butchering to hide a cable even if there was...

    Wireless contact sensor?

It's just a wall and cable coming up from the floor... What are you looking for?

    Wireless contact sensor?

Alarm system has a door chime and sensor on the front door. Decorating / stripped and painted door and added new architraves and left the sensor and associated cabling dangling to one side. Is there a wireless direct swap option available? I see wireless sensors compatible with certain...

Cigarette smoking coming in from next door neighbour

If you lift the laminate you also have the gaps in the floorboards to deal with. At the moment it's just the edges... That's why overboarding and taping *may* be an option... Good luck

Cigarette smoking coming in from next door neighbour

Sorry, missed the bit about moving to carpets.... Would overlaying the floorboards with 4mm ply and taping the edges (with the tough metal tape or something meaty) be an option? Then underlay and carpet.

Cigarette smoking coming in from next door neighbour

Put it back on! Seriously though, party walls suck. Or rather, living near other people suck. Lived in a few that either transmit sound or smells from gaps in the wall, presumably where the joists sit. Short of ripping up the floor and trying to plug them (messy, difficult access, no guarantee...
