Bricks didn't bond - too dry?

Hi all, did my first bit of work with facing bricks yesterday and have some bad results. I noticed when laying that they didn't feel right on the mortar, there seemed to be very little adhesion much after laying but I'd only used engineering bricks with holes before so put it down to that and...

    Fitting Laminate Upstands

Same, I just thought that was a granite only thing

    Fitting Laminate Upstands

Genuinely? Sounds stupid, but our kitchen is granite and I can't go anywhere to have a nose at anybody elses!

    Fitting Laminate Upstands

Seems like a really daft question, but my DIY utility kitchen install has gone well so far and I don't want to make it look crap at the last hurdle So, what's the best way to fit laminate upstands? Because of the design, I've got three internal corners. Assuming the walls aren't square (blame...

45 degree join for laminate worktop

Masons mitre but it's an expensive game if you don't have the kit. You'll be wanting a decent router, with a 30mm guide plate, and a worktop jig. I used it as an excuse to treat myself to a proper 1/2in Dewalt router (Expensive!), but I've already used it several times since so I've no doubt...

    Door lining for bifold doors

Oh ignore me, just looked at some pics and obviously (now I think about it) the door sits in the stops

    Door lining for bifold doors

Hi all, I need to fit a door lining to a stud wall, so that I can then fit a bi-fold door. Normally I like to buy everything at once so I can get my head round it, but don't really want the door hanging around while we plaster and finish the room (it's a toilet, so still plenty to do in there)...

Slow going - my double storey extension build

Bloody well done mate! That's a hell of an effort. Must admit, I do have a twinge of regret for not sticking out the blockwork a bit - especially when the builder/brickie showed up and said "Awesome, you've done all the difficult stuff". Very happy with my Plasmor blocks - I actually went...

Decorative Garden Wall - Pier Placement Advice

Sound, that's basically what I was thinking. And yeah, not high, or retaining anything it's purely decorative - probably knee high basically

Decorative Garden Wall - Pier Placement Advice

Afternoon all! We want to build a decorative garden well which will enclose our decking (which will be put in after) It's gonna be one brick (i.e., two leaves ) and somewhat rusticy so I'm tempted with flemish or garden wall bond. My query is pillar locations, really. I've made a very very...

    Guesstimate - extension roof costs

Wow, bloody top work mate! Looked at those Marley's when doing my little extension - nice choice. I think you've got a thread in the Readers Builds section? I'll go and have a catch up!

    Guesstimate - extension roof costs

Wow, okay, that's in the realms of reasonable. Did you do it all yourself?

    Guesstimate - extension roof costs

Apparently there's something broke inside of me and I don't know how to just sit and relax ;) That one was teeny! Though I'll be getting a LOT more help this time round!

    Guesstimate - extension roof costs

    For the roof??

    Extending a drain run

Purely anecdotal but when I spoke to the BCO about my small extension he just shrugged and said connect it to the existing shared sewer. Didn't seek any sort of permission and they've signed off drainage now.

    Guesstimate - extension roof costs

I realise completely this is very much a "how long is a piece of string" question, but please bear with me! I'm basically trying to approximate the costs for an extension to get a feel for whether it's achievable. I've got a good grasp of most things, but the roof represents a huge unknown to...

    Rear extension Under PD

I applied for an LDC because I was doing it all myself an a) wanted the peace of mind and b) figured it might be handy in the event of a house sale. Anyway, it took forever to come through so I just started without it!
