    Knightsbridge downlighter replacement

How amazing is it that some would install NINE 60 Degree angled little area illuminating "Down-Lights", to light a whole Kitchen Area, which actually requires "General-Lighting" - which could be provided by one, or more, LED Panels - and (possibly) localized "Task Lighting" and/or "Under...

    Strange Socket In Hospital

There has been much discussion on this site concerning the original Post. Have another look at the photo. These pair of Socket-Outlets seem to be near the Floor. The sign has been partially "painted over". There is obvious dust/dirt on the "ledge" below it and there does not seem to be a curved...

    Led light bulb G4

(If that device will operate on AC and the Halogen power supply is just a Transformer or a Power supply with no minimum output there will be no problem.) and flameport:- I do not wish to be "argumentative" but you will find that (virtually) all such devices are actually made in China ! Many...

    Led light bulb G4

Yes - depending on the suitability of the replacement G4 LED Any wattage is suitable, provided that the Power Supply can supply it. Let's not get into any argument ! However, that which you require is a 12 V DC Power Supply. The MAINS AC will be "transformed" into a Lower Voltage and...

    Earth/moon.

The situation would be not unlike the case with a Motor Vehicle, where:- On a motor vehicle, "earth" refers to the metal body of the car itself, which acts as (usually) the negative terminal of the electrical system, providing a return path for current and essentially acting as a "grounding...

I realize that this thread started off as somewhat of a Joke. However, there is this:- https://ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/20220005893/downloads/Power%20and%20Energy%20for%20the%20Lunar%20Surface.pdf among others,

    LED lights, transformers and dimmers

Probably longer than it takes to get things (cheaper) from China - where most (if not all) of these things are made. https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-cob-led-strips.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.search.0

How to re-wire this switch with three red wires?

Why was it removed? Does/did this other switch operate the same light? If so, a photo of the wiring existing at that switch would be of assistance. Was it not connected? Did the light work at that time? Where they still are. OR, obtain an appropriately sized nut and fix it in position, using...

Series or Parallel for LED strips

Current / Wattage depends on the Type of LED Chip, Number of Chips per Metre, Total number of metres. For SMD 5050 LED Chips, each Chip draws (up to) 0.2 W. If you had a Strip with 84 Chips/Metre this would use (up to) 16.8 W/m. At 12 V, this is 1.4 A/m For 7 Metres, (at 12 V), this would...

Weight which can be supported by plaster board?

I wondered about that also and had to look it up. I then discovered that that product is much the same as the "Hollow Wall Anchor", sold here by Ramset https://www.bunnings.com.au/ramset-16mm-hollow-wall-anchor-4-pack_p2264781 Also described as "Steel Expanding Bolt Cavity Fixing" by...

Series or Parallel for LED strips

Such an arrangement is not in series. The Positives and Negative leads in the LED Strip go from end to end and each of the LED "sections" are across these two (or five) conductors - in parallel.

    Adapter question

The Photo (in Post #1) appears to show an IEC C7 Female connector and an IEC C2 Male connector. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60320 You would need an adaptor with an IEC C8 Male connector. and an IEC C1 Female connector. If you cannot find one, you could make up a lead using an...

Weight which can be supported by plaster board?

While one might install a "Batten Holder" on plaster board, I would not regard that as "good practice". At the very least, a batten should be installed between the adjacent ceiling joists, to support the fitting. This is one case where our North American "cousins" really do it better. They have...

Is it safe to change this molded American plug (electric kettle) ?

I believe that you will find a device as simple as that to be quite well made - and safe. I have had no problem in buying similar (and more complicated) items. Often you will find that the same thing is sold "locally", under another name and many times the price !

"Earth to neutral fault" with TN-C-S supply ?

OK. BUT Consider https://www.diynot.com/diy/attachments/1738000557204-png.370919/ (From where did this come ?) There is still a circuit from the Neutral to the PE Conductor and back to the Neutral/Earth connection point, under these test button conditions This circuit is in parallel with the...

Bathroom ceiling light melted wiring - likely cause?

No, you are not talking rubbish. However, if it was caused by a loose connection at the screw terminal, one would expect to see much of the insulation melted close to the connection point, with less melting further along the wire from that point - due to increasing heat dissipation.

"Earth to neutral fault" with TN-C-S supply ?

Well, NO. You wrote "the current through the N side of the RCD will also be the same (as the current in the Line) whether or not there is a downstream N-E fault." A "downstream N-E fault" will place the PE Conductor in parallel with the Neutral. If (say) they are both the same CSA, the...
