Is flex cable required in this case?

Quick questions Am I right in saying that you would use flex (as opposed to flat cable) if the cable is likely to be held, manipulated, moved around, outside etc? I plan to fit a loft light and a part of me feels like I should be using Flex cable? The other part of me thinks that I am...

    Can I Isolate This Setup?

Sound like my arm would be twisted into getting a 'smart' meter.. urrrgh. To do this, don't they need to pull the main cutout fuse? So, would the DNO need to attend for this? I think this is all baloney. Classic fear mongering in order to prevent people from pulling their fuses, removing...

    Can I Isolate This Setup?

Thank you. So based on the pic, 1. I cannot isolate the electricity from the electrical meter box? 2. I need to call my electrical supplier and ask them to fit an isolator? Is this typically free or a charge? Also, is this something a qualified sparky could do?

Can anyone explain the purpose of this separate switchfuse and RCD? (Ed.)

From the pic, I have labelled them 1 and 2 They appear to be isolators and the wires travel to my garage Could I get confirmation on what they are and why I need two?

    Nailing Concrete Roof Tiles

Yes, but it is my understanding that this was not a requirement a few years back. That coupled with the fact that we have never had a tile fly off the roof in the 40+ years it has been on the roof Also, nailing every tile makes future removal/ replacement cumbersome. I am happy to follow the...

    Can I Isolate This Setup?

Looking at my electrical setup, I want to know whether it is possible to isolate the electricity from the electrical meter box? If not could I get advice on what I need to do or who to call to get an isolator fitted in the meter box

    Nailing Concrete Roof Tiles

I've just read that according to BS 5534 - All tiles must be fixed (nailed). As a minimum. - In addition, a fixing calculation should be run to determine if any extra fixings, such as clips, are required. Isn't this all a bit overkill for wind zone 1?

    Nailing Concrete Roof Tiles

I have concrete interlocking tiles that need to be nailed down Could anyone confirm whether nailing every third row is the recommended method? i.e. nail first row, then miss two rows, then nail the one above I live in wind zone 1

    Messed up laying membrane?

Yes, it's not my finest work. What's the easiest way to rectify this?

    Messed up laying membrane?

Presuming that the answer is 'no' and this needs rectifying, what is the easiest way to sort this out? Also, out of curiosity, do said tiny drops of water that don't drain to the eaves/gutter just sit on the membrane to evaporate later or do they soak through the membrane like a sieve?

    Messed up laying membrane?

I laid new membrane in windy conditions. For the most part the membrane was laid well, with the required sag However in a couple of areas, the membrane lifts up a little (pic 1 and 2), is a little tight in areas (pic 1), which allows a little water to pool a bit (please see pics). Eventually...

How to correct water not running into eaves support tray?

That's awesome. Thank you for so much for this. Plenty of food for thought and I agree tile drooping is not astatically pleasing, so trying to avoid this. Yes, it's a shallow puddle, so just need to raise the rear of the support tray just a tad. Will get this done.

How to correct water not running into eaves support tray?

If i lower the fascia, i am almost certain that the first row of tiles will no longer interlock with the tiles on my neighbours. What is the disadvantage of the tile drooping? What do kickers look like? Where do i buy it from? Or do i have to cut/make them? I have asked my local timber...

How to correct water not running into eaves support tray?

I agree, it could be messy. Interestingly, this guy on Youtube appears to have used his multitool to lower a fascia board to correct the same issue i have. Youtube Video I do have an cordless planer. Would never have thought to use this. Will do a test run, just in case the plastic pieces...

How to correct water not running into eaves support tray?

Thank you. Lowering the fascia board would definitely help provide an adequate fall for water to run off. To lower the fascia would you remove the gutter and replace the UPVC fascia (for one not as tall) or would you use something like an multi-tool to cut it? Thanks woody. Do you have an...

10mm gap between old and new batten, what to do?

What do you mean by ease the thinner one? I'm a layman, so i don't quite get the lingo. When you say 'pack' are you saying that i should place a material on top of the short batten? If so, what material would be best and how should it be fixed down onto the existing batten?
