    Upgrading supply/dno earthing

To be fair I havent thought about it for ages. Its only because I'm juggling circuits about and looking at a ring main fault under the door that I'm like its actually quite poor. But many house have a supply as old and as bad. I am intrigued as to what the ze is myself. I'm ringing them in the...

    Upgrading supply/dno earthing

I did pull the service fuse. It isnt a breaker on the floor either it's a proper blank that goes in place of a breaker. I'm making the phone call in the morning so wish me luck. See what they come up with? Would whatever they do affect any other houses on the street?

    Upgrading supply/dno earthing

I havent rung yet. I have changed the consumer unit but I'm currently waiting on one of those large stuffing glands for the tales. Once this is done I will ring them. It will probably be Wednesday. Il let you know how I get on

    Upgrading supply/dno earthing

Our house was built in the 1930s. The supply cable coming in has the earth bolted on. It's just strands of metal coming off a bolt. I was planning on bolting a 16mm earth onto this and running it onto a new 8 way earth bar. The cable going to the cutout is cloth which looks like it has very...

    Paint for single skin brick

What type of paint am I better off using for single skin brick and for a lean to extension with single skin brick boarded over with plasterboard with a foam backing. The bottom areas near the pvc door are prone to condensation and feeling a heck of a lot colder than everywhere else. I'm guessing...

    Damp proof course

I think theirs a layer just above the air bricks. It's been repointed but you could see like a black layer behind the cement at that level

    Damp proof course

I am a total novice when it comes to this sort of stuff but I want to make sure their isnt something drastically wrong with my damp proof and sub floor vents The flags are all finished just under the air vents. At the back we have a large opening with windows and french doors so their is only...

    Subfloor smell

But at the minute its cemented between the house and those flags/brick edge. So water at the minute will run away and drain down the flags away from the house. If I remove them and dig down will it not make it worse. Could water not get down to the foundations? I have basic knowledge but when it...

    Subfloor smell

Would I be better removing the small paving bricks around the vent and digging down and putting pea gravel down and having it lower than the air brick? I figure with how it is at least most of the water will drain away due to the slope and not pool at the house

    Subfloor smell

You are correct the patio is the exact same at the back. Its level is level with the air bricks. The dpc is above the air bricks. The chemical injection is just above the dpc. I'm guessing for now try to get air bricks in at the back and see if it helps. If not then at some point I will have to...

    Subfloor smell

Like I said it's an earthy smell. I've been under floors wiring in different houses and they all smell. Clothes smell awful afterwards. So I figured it was normal. I'm hoping the extra vents will help. Well it wont do any harm will it?

    Subfloor smell

I know. We have never suffered any damp problems while we lived here. I dont know about previous owners. I know sometimes surveyors can demand the damp course is done to be on the safe side

    Subfloor smell

I insulated around the floor where the party wall is for soundproofing purposes. This is what it looks like down there. I'd say it was warm weather when I took these pics but no obvious signs of anything I'd say. Only problem is all the air bricks are flagged right up to. So if I put some in at...

That's the vents at the front. There arent any straight facing at the back

    Subfloor smell

There are two vents at the front under the bay window. One on the side and one at the back where the kitchen is. I'm guessing I may need to add 2 at the back and one at the side where the kitchen is? That way each side has 2 and there is cross ventilation. Is it not normal to have a musty smell...

    Subfloor smell

I was just wondering is it normal to have a musty smell coming from under the floor. If I lift the carpet it smells. The only thing i can describe it as is musty. Their is no smell anywhere at all but the underneath of carpet can smell and if you smell between the floorboards it smells. Its bare...

    Two radiators making noise

In the one in the bathroom it's just a lock shield valve. If I close that the noise is even louder! In the bedroom if I close the lock shield the noise stops. Its the same in the kitchen. Any small radiators seem to have this noise of water flow coming from them. The large radiators downstairs...
