The boiler has probably overheated I you turned the power off when the boiler was on. The overheat iirc is inside the combistion chamber on this boiler and as such you SHOULD get a qualified individual to open he chamber and reset. Next time sett the how water and central heating to 'off'...

I'm not so hot on immersion wiring but I'd suggest you might need an electricians advice as to what timer would help as I'm certain a central heating type timer running immersion would overheat and be unsafe.

It depends wha you are trying to do, but you really need some sort of interlock or the water could become lethally hot.

its a diy job, i dont think you can get them apart from when you buy a new rad, as said, make somethink youself, think ptfe take on the brakets may do it. of course you'll have to drain and remove the rads to do it :)

if the trv's are juddering when off, they may be on the wrong end of the rad. if the cold feed is blocked and needed blowing through, maybe he should just cut out and replace the blockage. sounds like they do have to come back :)

My advice, if you cant afford the rad central heating yet, is to save your money for a while, until you can get it all done in one fell swoop. all in all it will be less disprution to have it done in one hit, and because you wont be paying them to keep coming back, the cost would be lower.

when you say national gas supplier, are you referring to mational grid, or someone like southern electric or british gas? If you have paid for a fixed price repair and they have not solved it , then they should not be trying to charge you more to repair the same fault.....

i assume by 2 stage frost protection you mean a frost sta and a pipe stat yes? frost stat will fire the boiler until the pipe stat is satisfied. unless the frost protection is built into the boiler.

blank display is usually the main pbc iirc. you state that the programmer is lit, so the fuse should be ok. check that the rocker switch on the front of the boiler is set to on, and failing that, its time to 'get someone in' for logical faultfinding. pcb is roughly £200 plus vat plus 1 hour...

keep your reciept. i assume you mean the diverter valve yeah? if that was faulty i dont believe you would have had the temp rise you've described. when it goes wrong again, have the plate hex looked at and maybe have a central heating filter fitted.
