Mild corrosion on a circuit board

Try a spray product called 'flux-off', this is what we use for cleaning PCBs at work during manufacture and repair. Spray on and use the brush to dislodge any crud from the board. https://uk.farnell.com/chemtronics/es830be/cleaner-flux-off-ii-200ml/dp/860402?st=flux-off

Kitchen Cabinet Downlights - Flashing / Not Working

Try (temporarily) replacing the dimmer with a normal switch. If you don't have one to hand, bypass the dimmer to test - post a picture of the connections to it if unsure how to do this. This tells you if the problem is the driver and lamps (they still don't work with the dimmer removed) or the...

    EICR and Fuse Board Change

That does sound sensible to me. There can be certain faults that will go un-detected by fuse-wire fuses, but will prevent an RCD from being able to be switched on at all. As such, it's better to know about these problems before a board change than only finding them afterwards. Some testing to...

Dual outlet cooker connection unit (surface)

Thanks everyone, what I've basically got at present is a 6mm coming from the wall, connected to two 4mm flexes (I think they are 4mm, one could be 6mm), one for the oven and one for the hob. These are joined in a round JB under the kitchen units. This isn't fixed to anything, and I've got...

Dual outlet cooker connection unit (surface)

Yeah, my thoughts were something like a combination of that and this...

Dual outlet cooker connection unit (surface)

Thanks AndyPRK, I should have said I need the box (whatever size it is) to have a cable clamp on it as well...

Dual outlet cooker connection unit (surface)

Hi, Does anyone know of a surface mountable, dual outlet cooker connection unit. 1G or 2G box is fine. I can't find anything at the usual places.... Thanks, Colin

    Running

I have run in the past, and keep meaning to get back into it. Having recently moved to Devon I'm keen to get into trail running more, but am struggling to commit time to it at present or find people to run with. My main sport is whitewater kayaking (see avatar) which always comes first if it's...

Take power from a light switch

I've certainly seen at least one property wired with 'red and earth' cable looped from switch to switch, and another run of same from each switch to the light(s). A double insulated single-core neutral looped from light to light, completing the circuit. It confused me when I first met it, but...

RCD trips out when oven gets hot

It's the grill (or oven) at fault, not the RCD. Probably the element shorting to ground when it gets hot would be my guess. Most likely an element replacement will fix it.

    Ford Focus airbag light

Hi :) I've got the airbag warning light on, on my 14 plate focus. I've had a look at the under-seat connectors (taken them out and put them back), disconnected and reconnected the battery, checked the fuse. None of this has helped, has anyone got any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks...

    Help... light fitting wiring

Oh, maybe. It does sound that way to be fair.

    Help... light fitting wiring

As currently pictured, it won't work. You need to turn off the power, and join the two UNMARKED blacks together in a new, additional terminal block. This should get the rest of the house working again when you switch the main switch back on again. Moving on from this (switch the main switch...

    Moving Wooden Blocked Light Switches.

Yep, time to rewire (assuming they genuinely ARE old switches, and not reproduction old looking ones!) My 1955 built house had rubber insulated cable when I bought it, and the insulation dropped off the cores when you flexed them to put them into a terminal. Full rewire was the only remotely...

Help me choose a drill (and drill bits)

Thanks Woody, I'll have a look at Heller. The Daper is no-more sadly, as all the smoke has escaped from inside. The bricks here are fairly hard, but I'm hoping that buying a decent bit and an average drill will allow me to get through them.

Help me choose a drill (and drill bits)

Just recently a fair amount, as I've just bought a new house, but generally only occasional bits and pieces.

Help me choose a drill (and drill bits)

Hi, For a few years I've had a cheap Draper cordless drill, which has finally died (lots of smoke, it's definitely dead). I'm trying to make some holes to install a pipe onto the back wall of the house (6mm, screw and plug type fixings, into rendered - I think - masonry), and that drill won't...

    Tripping MCB

The pros will be able to give better advice, but if it were me, I'd split the circuit about half way, and see if the problem continues (if it does, the fault is on the 50% of the wiring that is still powered). Divide and conquer :) Obviously, check the lights and switches for damaged...

Guttering fitting... What part to buy?

Sorry, only just spotted this reply, I'll certainly take one in the morning.

Guttering fitting... What part to buy?

Hi, I'm planning to replace a leaking gutter fitting on the back of the house. It connects round gutter (from the back wall of my place) with square gutter (from the house next door) and feeds both into a square downpipe. From ground level it looks as if a square to square down pipe outlet has...
