    Repairing a partially broken wire?

Have we established exactly where the break is? I have had a couple of similar lights fail. (Amazon) It’s possibly easier to break open the in line controller (probably just a snap fit) to expose the circuit board . Then cut the damaged cable back towards the lamp and resolder direct to the...

    Asbestos in ceiling?

If it IS asbestos, (not likely) then it’s now enclosed. No need to worry unless you drill into it and breathe in

    Asbestos in ceiling?

Doubt it but for peace of mind a test is cheap. It’s probably animal hair that was used for strengthening the mortar

    Fence Post Spacing

5mm is nothing anyway, a panel will swell a bit when wet so leave a decent gap Fence panels always go in easier after a heat wave I recently changed my 20 year old panels for new ones from the same small company and all but one slid in. I had to use a planer to shave one panel down. The posts...

Antibacterial wipes which are biodegradable how?

A mate of mine was a chemist specialising in paper manufacturing. He spent maybe 5 years working on toilet paper v tissue. He could bore the pants of you talking about the stuff. Bog paper is designed to dissolve, tissue less so. The stuff we had at school was nuclear proof. If they’d clad the...

    Japanese import?

Cheers I’d probably keep the car until it’s worthless. I was looking at Toyota/Honda or Volvo and maybe Audi. I understand about the lack of underseal, the Japanese don’t salt the roads, They are apparently anal about servicing and spec very highly. My girlfriend’s Honda was opposite...

    Motability Cars

Why? My aunt had MS and relied on her mobility vehicle to get around. She’d paid taxes her whole working life, apart from a couple of years when the MS made working 5 days a week too difficult. She would have been entitled to a bus pass once she retired, but couldn’t use a bus.

Side lamps controlled by ‘light switch’?

I use remote sockets. Mainly because I have them. They use a small remote control. You could tidy it up using a kinetic switch I suppose

    Renault Captur grommet through firewall

I have pierced car grommets in the past when fitting car alarms. I found that a cheap biro case made a handy funnel like tool to feed cable through a grommet. Use a scalpel to make a cross cut and push the “nib “ end into the grommet. Then feed the wire into the pen body. It can be slid over the...

Finishing off this under-stairs toilet window

You could get a piece of tempered glass cut to fit? (They cut it to size then temper it) And paint the underside with the wall paint. It will give you a wipe clean ledge that matches the walls.

    Polycarbonate sheet on pergola

Theoretically, yes. But avoid full weight as much as possible. Always rely on woodwork, not plastic to support weight.

    Polycarbonate sheet on pergola

I am assuming that you have rafters running front to back? Probably at 10° or more fall for rain to drain? Either start in the middle or go side to side, keep your weight on a ladder. I have stood on poly wall but only where rafters are
