I am hearing and reading that up to 1 in 5 new cars is bought on the motability scheme ?
and for as little a £8k theey can upgrade to a Merecedes C Class
also told many are used 6 days a week as family cars and they take the mother to the shops once a week

What on earth is going on - no wonder the country is bankrupt

Where do I sign up?

Fek it, if you cant beat em join em

I don’t remember these Tory voters complaining about the scheme when the exact same rules were in place during a Conservative govt.

Funny that

Are disabled people not allowed to use their cars more than 5 days a week, or to give other people lifts?

WT* is wrong with you all?

Do you really know nothing? Or do you know the truth but just see disabled people as one more disadvantaged group that you tell lies about to make yourselves feel better?

I'll try this in the largest font the forum has, and maybe, just maybe, you'll see it.

MOTABILITY VEHICLES ARE INSTEAD OF A CASH DISABILITY BENEFIT WHICH THE PERSON WOULD OTHERWISE BE RECEIVING. NOT ONE EXTRA PENNY IS SPENT ON MOTABILITY CARS THAN WOULD BE SPENT ON CASH BENEFITS. SCRAPPING THE SCHEME WOULD NOT SAVE ONE PENNY.

There are some people in this world who don't think that disabled people should be allowed anything.

The disabled bays at my local supermarket are more often than not taken up by big 4x4 luxury motors.

Maybe they need large vehicles to transport equipment - have you thought about that?

Maybe they need vehicles with higher seating positions than ordinary cars for ease of access - have you thought about that?

Can you think? If you can, maybe you think that a disability should be grounds for not allowing people to have the same freedom to choose as you do?

The idea was that disabled people find transport harder than able bodied people and so the state assists to make sure they can participate fully. That includes work, the school run, shopping and so on.

Paet of the reason it keeps growing is that we don't strip it from people who've passed pension age. Another part is that the increase in pension age has meant more people have been eligible before they hit pension age.

We should look at stripping it from people once they hit pension age.

maybe some people are fibbin to get the car? or having the car in a family members name and then using it just for tthemselves.....maybe

Why?
My aunt had MS and relied on her mobility vehicle to get around. She’d paid taxes her whole working life, apart from a couple of years when the MS made working 5 days a week too difficult.
She would have been entitled to a bus pass once she retired, but couldn’t use a bus.

this is what a salesman in a garage has been telling - just wondering how true it is, I wouldn't be surprised.

I am all for helping those that need help, but struggling to believe one in five new cars are sold for this purpose - seems extraordinarily high

And why can you contribute to buy a luxury model, if you have the extra money - buy your own car!

and it would appear it doesn't stop with just the car, Road Tax, Insurance, Servicing etc - all comes with the same package

Me neither.

I don't mind that, I dont see why disabled people can't have a really nice car/upgrade if they want one.
