Ceiling Acoustic insulation solutions, Iso-Max, GenieClip etc.

Yes, it was lath & plaster overboarded (badly) with a single layer of plasterboard. There was no access from above to put RW3 between the joists and can't lose any ceiling height so pulling it down was the only option.

Ceiling Acoustic insulation solutions, Iso-Max, GenieClip etc.

A good link thanks. So it looks like Knauf Soundshield has the best density against thickness compared to Soundbloc, DB board etc. 1 layer of 15mm followed by 12.5mm on a ceiling would give a combined weight of 25 kg/m2 vs 23.2 kg/m2 for Soundbloc. Whether that difference is noticeable in...

    Using underground soil pipe internally

Got a few soil pipe runs to do internally for a renovation. From research the brown underground pipe is not UV stabilised therefore obviously shouldn't be used externally above ground. Presumably though it can be used under floors (between joists) and boxed in. Cost wise it is cheaper so aside...

Ceiling Acoustic insulation solutions, Iso-Max, GenieClip etc.

Thanks everyone, some interesting opinions. I'm not convinced by genie clips or their equivalent Oscar ISO mounts especially in terms of cost over say resi bars. I think they are certainly good at reducing the amount of ceiling height lost, but most of the noise reduction (airbourne & impact)...

Ceiling Acoustic insulation solutions, Iso-Max, GenieClip etc.

There are are a number of solutions on the market I've been researching for soundproofing a ceiling due to noise from neighbouring flats above (both airborne & impact noise). In my case, it's a Victorian property divided into flats. Joists are deep (8x2) and existing lath & plaster ceiling...

Rockwool RW3 between joists sufficient heat insulation?

Interesting point, didn’t consider insulating that. The flat above is currently being sold & is empty, maybe I should get the new buyer to pay for it seeing as it would benefit them & keep their flat warmer! Question remains though whether to add some cheap fibreglass roll (e.g. 170mm) on top of...

Rockwool RW3 between joists sufficient heat insulation?

Just started a project to pull down several old ceilings (lath & plaster) in a Victorian house and insulate due to sound problems from the flat above. See pic. I'm using 100mm slabs of Rockwool RW3 which has a Lambda value (Thermal conductivity) of 0.034 W/mK which is good. Most of the areas...

Multi channel equaliser (preferably rack mount)

About 9 channels initially, budget around £500-£600 for amp/equaliser solution. I’ve sourced most of the kit 2nd hand so far.

Multi channel equaliser (preferably rack mount)

All the Airport Express boxes are Airplay 2 capable so that gives you individual volume control on the line outputs and playing the same track if required in multiple rooms at the same.

Multi channel equaliser (preferably rack mount)

I’ve got a bunch of airport express units so I can run audio natively using iPhones etc in one or more rooms without other software or going down the Sonos route. I’m looking at possibly a Russound multi channel amp to drive it to the various rooms which have ceiling speakers. Obviously the...

Multi channel equaliser (preferably rack mount)

I'm looking for a multi-channel equaliser that will take the outputs of a multi zone (channel) amplifier and be able to adjust the Bass/Treble etc on each output as they are driving ceiling speakers in each zone. The amp is in a rack so ideally I'd like an equaliser unit that will go in there...

    Brightfun vs eWeLink, SmartLink etc

Do all these apps for Smart devices use the same protocols, or should I say do most of the Smart devices use the same protocols for communication that can be controlled by different apps? I've been looking at installing various Wifi RGB led bulbs from the likes of Mi-Light, Sonoff etc and would...

Red oxide & fire board on RSJs

In what situations is red oxide primer and/or fire rated plasterboard required on RSJs or Universal Beams? If the beam was totally internal and not somewhere exposed then I can see why red oxide might not be required but what about fire board ? Is this now required on all new beam installations...

    What software/apps are you using?

Given the popularity of smartphones, tablets etc. What software/apps are you using to handle your daily workload/accounts etc? I'm in the building trade and looking for utilities to handle quotes/invoices and also time sheets (e.g. for labourers) and also quickly enter receipts for materials...

Solid cavity wall on timber floor

Working on a project at the moment to build a single storey extension to infill the space between three adjoining external walls of a house. Having incovered an existing fowl drain pipe and gas main, the architect has changed the plans from concrete foundations/slab to a suspended timber floor...

Eggshell type coating on victorian coving

Spent a few days trying to renovate some old Victorian coving which is badly flaking in quite a few places. The flaking surface of the coving seems to be very thick paint almost like an eggshell in thickness. I'm flaking it off with a palette knife that reveals the soft plaster of the coving...
