I tried pulling the head off but it doesn’t move. Are you saying under the head there’s just a valve like the other side and I can just turn it shut manually? The valve is brand new

    Drayton TRV4

This is all a bit technical the YouTube video said just turn the valve off. I got no idea how to do the above! How do I get the twisty thing off the valve, is that what you mean? out of my depth a bit. Also, I have a combi system. I’ve lost about 1 litre. Do I need to do anything other...

    Drayton TRV4

Hi, I’m trying to drain and remove a radiator. One end is a Drayton TRV4x I’ve turned it as far as it will go. It has a frost setting and no further. this hasn’t isolated the rad. When I pull it out the valve water shoots out. how does one go about isolating from this valve as I can’t...

    Cement in fireplace

Thanks, I was probably being too cautious I doubt 1939 mortar was likely to have asbestos in it. Had a good look at it and just looks like mortar nothing fibre like in it! One other question, I am chiselling it off and then using liquid soda and a wire brush and a bit of vinegar. presume this...

Hi, I’ve removed the old baxi and now have a fireplace I am planning on putting a log display in. see this pic the edges of the plaster are rough. Is there an edging I can buy and stick on, or would you bite the bullet and pay someone to skim the corners (presume it’s possible to make...

Are garden Wasps active at this time of year?

bees are ok. I can’t say I like them but if I had one inside the house I can get them out without a panic attack. Bees just want to get on with their business. wasps on the other side are like a marauding criminals, just out looking for a ruck.

    Bunker renovation

Hi, my kitchen has a coal bunker underneath. it was open to the elements save a plastic tarpaulin, ie no door on it. my kitchen floor and the whole kitchen gets REALLY cold in winter. So, I am putting a door on it but can’t see how that solves it as it won’t be airtight and still feel like...

Are garden Wasps active at this time of year?

gate is at the back and it’s only to a footpath. I am indeed a massive fairy when it comes to wasps. I’m a massive guy and my wife is 5 foot dead and about 7 stone, and she often gets irritated by having to get rid of wasps while I’m cowering upstairs. however, don’t mind spider one bit so...

Are garden Wasps active at this time of year?

I did it anyway and took the risk - no wasp attack. I do wonder what these things purpose is. They are gods joke, I’d happily barbecue a nest with a blowtorch if I wasn’t too cowardly to get anywhere near it! im sure they fill some purpose but can’t another species, say, ladybirds, take over...

    Coal Bunker door

Hi, after researching I’ve started building doors to my coal bunker (presume the old ones rotted off as they were gone when I got here) I’ve built a frame from 2 by 2 and screwed into the brickwork - see pic I let the top of the old frame in and built below as it’s attached to the lintel...
