    14mm cladding clips

Well, I said I'd come back to report on how it went... The clips were fine except that the staples in my staple gun were only just barely wide enough to fit in the holes in the clips, so it took a long time as I had to be very accurate trying to line up the staples with the holes in the clips. I...

    14mm cladding clips

The ones in Wickes (and B&Q) that I've seen are smaller & designed for the 7mm cladding I think. I'm not sure what you mean about Bosch doing them and the reference to staplers as it's not nails/staples that I'm after. However, after some extensive searching I finally found some Piranha...

    14mm cladding clips

Hi, I'm putting up a small amount of vertical indoor cladding, floor to ceiling. I'd like to use cladding clips but I've got 14mm thick cladding, and the clips which Wickes and B&Q sell are too small. To fit they'd need to be about 4mm deep. Does anyone know anywhere that sells these sorts of...

    (Roofing?) Batten

Yes, I see what you mean - but stuff which is sold for use outdoors (& hence treated) isn't dry (& warps as it does dry out in my experience). I suppose by that logic the roofing batten would be dried as it's intended to be "inside" but I expected it to say it was, if so.

    (Roofing?) Batten

Hi All, I'm looking for some 2x1 (ish) batten which is both kiln dried & treated. I know CLS is like this, but doesn't come that small. Roofing batten is the right size & some websites specify that it's dried, but the places near me I've looked at online (Bradfords, Buildbase, Wickes) don't...

    Weeping oil bleed valve

Yeah, well, I guess it's possible I nicked it with my spanner while undoing it... o_O

    Weeping oil bleed valve

Thanks all. In the end, I took the screw out to put the PFTE on, looked at it again and realised the washer had a burr. Filed that down & re-tightened. Good so far.

    Weeping oil bleed valve

There's a metal washer on the bleed valve (just a machine screw really). Can I replace that with a rubber/fabric/plastic one, or will it perish? Is there some other sealant I could use? Adam

    Weeping oil bleed valve

Hi All, I've just had to bleed some air from the oil feed to my Camray boiler. The bleed valve is now weeping oil. Any ideas why this would be, or if there're any tricks to stop it? Thanks a lot, Adam

    Matt finish silicone

Hi All, I've bought various brands/types of clear silicone before, and they all have a shiny finish. However, I've seen matt-finish results. Does anyone know of a type which gives a matt finish? Ideally from Screwfix or Toolstation... Thanks, Adam

    Crack stitching grout

Hmm, either I've misunderstood you or something else has gone wrong. I bought a tube of SiroFlex, "based on MS polymer technology" and figured it would go hard like pinkgrip/gripfill, but it's remained flexible. As the hex bars are supposed to work by compressing the grout, I can't see this...

    Crack stitching grout

Thanks, I'll pick up a tube of adhesive tomorrow. Any thoughts on the leftover liquid I've got? Is it worth using it with OPC & sand to make up some mortar to fill the last few voids? Adam

    Crack stitching grout

Even the no-name cheapo version from Toolstation is £50 for 3 litres. I only need about a tenth of that amount :/

    Crack stitching grout

Hi, I've just been stitching my masonry wall with a twistfix kit, but have run out of grout with two bars to go! I'd like to avoid buying a whole new tub of grout for £50 odd quid if I can. I do have some of the grout liquid left over. Is the powder part just OPC & sand? If so, I might just...

    Ring final test results

My ballpark estimate for the total length is 50m, (give or take 10m!). I'd seen about the possibility of it being old 2.5/1 in another thread but I know that almost all of the cabling is brown & blue (which I assume means 2.5/1.5 There are just a couple of places (awkward spurs particularly)...

    Ring final test results

I am using an old & cheap multimeter :/ If I get a new one, is there any way to tell if it'll actually be accurate enough before I buy it? Does anyone have any ideas on my second question? The socket is on the ring, not a spur, so I'm confused about how it can be giving a higher reading than...

    Ring final test results

Hello, I've added a couple of sockets to a ring final circuit, and have taken the opportunity to test the circuit. I've followed the instructions here. My results are: R11: 1.6 Rnn: 1.6 R22: 4.1 At stage 2 in the instructions, the values between live & neutral for each socket are 1.4 or 1.5 &...

    Resilient bars - right solution?

Yes, I meant would not using the resilient bars be better in terms of stiffness - I put it under "but" in my post. I've since seen a reference that the bars help prevent cracking between the boards so perhaps this is actually an advantage rather than a disadvantage though!
