    Hep2o changes

The company I work for has used nothing else but York express and mapress for copper and steel up to 108mm for 8 years now. Yes the fittings and tooling is a little more expensive but the labour saving more than balances this. As for the o-ring, I suspect this will outlast the owner. Geberit...

    Hep2o changes

The tool is not as clubersome as it might first seem. A manual rachet tool is available for the smaller sizes. Do you know why the fitting are a bit triangular when looked on end? I will tell you because I enquired about this. Its so if not pressed they will fail a pressure test. We had a few...

    Vaillant VRT360f DO NOT BUY!

When you turn it up to 26 you have set the temp to 26 but the display will go back to 20 because that is what the room is sitting at. It displays room temp not set temp. But the room temp should start to rise given a chance. Have you got thermostatic valves in the room with the VRT? Are the...

After taking advice from this site I used Aquapanel for the wall of the shower I was dismantelling and tanked the remaining plaster board at side of shower. No problems upto now (over 2 years.) PS Aquapanel does not take plaster or tanking well.

What is the best sealent for a glass gas hob?

I would follow the manufacurers instructions. That way if it cracks due to expansion it will be under warrantee. If you have used somthing not in the MI's it will not.

Help wiring in a new electric oven (inc Pics)

Buy flex and cut it a little longer. That cable looks as tight as a guitar string. Also its a good idea to leave the earth a little longer than the others so it is the last to become disconnected in the event of a tug when the strain relief device has not been used.

    Gas Meter Blank

Girlfriend got a card though the door asking her to read the meters. Went outside to read the gas and the display was completely blank. I presume now that the man read the gas meter and the card through the door was for electric only. Anyway, How will they know how much gas she has used if the...

    Unsealed compression fitting now sealed

Is it on mains cold water and had you just drawn some water through the pipe? If so the water on the nut was probably condensation which has now dried. Try running water through it for five minutes and see if the condensation reappears.

Multi-layer composite (MLC) pipes for plumbing

The company I work for has just competed a very large domestic water system. 3 year job with literally 10s of thousands of joints and fittings using the Geberit Mepla system, without 1 leak or weep. Its a press fit system but is unusual in that the pipe is pressed over the male spigot of the...

What the... ? Corroding copper pipes - pinholes.

This is a known problem with copper in soft water areas. NHS scotland has banned the use of copper for domestic water in their premises. See link. http://www.hfs.scot.nhs.uk/publications/SHTN%202%20Domestic%20Hot%20and%20Cold%20Water%20Systems%20for%20Scottish%20Healthcare%20Premises.pdf

What do I clad a stud wall for a shower with?

Exactly. Water resistant not waterproof. Tiles and grout let water through but dry out and do not degrade. This will over time damage plaster board. If you are using plaster board use a tanking kit. If using aquapanel do not skim. (plaster does not stick) I ended up using a combination of the...

Access hatch on wall hung wc's

I bought a toilet from homebase and thought I had the same problem. However all of the serviceable components in the cistern can be replaced with the flush panel removed. I had the same concerns about my concealed pipework joints (because I had an IV and DCV for my outside tap above cistern) so...

    FRIDGE FREEZING

Make sure the fast freeze switch has not been pressed accidently (if it has one). It is for freezing new food and the compressor runs continuously.
