Wiring doorbell transformer to mains plug

I don't want batteries, always have problems with wireless and have no existing wires to use. I appreciate it could be placed in a consumer unit by an electrician but other than that I thought I would need to plug it in as a DIY job. I'm here to learn so if I missed another way of doing it I'm...

Wiring doorbell transformer to mains plug

Thank you randomgrinch. In my haste I picked the first 1 meter cable and it's a 2.5mm one and overly large like you say. I will get a thinner 2 core and do it in the correct manner tomorrow.

Thank you sparkymarka. So should I just tape off the spare earth or should I have bought a cable without earth? I guess what I'm asking is can I plug it in without going bang.

Hey folks, I had a system to combi boiler change and wanted to turn the old cupboard containing the water tank into much needed storage. The gas folks doing the work did not mention anything so I think it's just plasterboard but as its a 1930 house and an airing cupboard, could you kind folks...

Best way of getting rid of tree stump (that’s out of the ground)?

I took a load of trees out of my garden and I was left with two sizeable stumps that I could not get rid of for firewood/stumpery. I crammed one into an oil barrel planter so it's now feeding a fruit tree and the other one eventually went in a skip we had for other stuff. Not suggesting it but...

Best place to buy an odd sized door

Hey folks, could anyone recommend a supplier for an odd sized door I'm trying to replace please? My bathroom door is 1950x700 and I can't find any online that can have that much removed from the height. Custom ones seem to run into several hundred, hoping to not spend as much. It's a 6 panel...

    Garden Gym height options

Hi Bolst3r, I've heard there are some caveats with using non-flammable materials next to the boundary, be it cement board, metal or fireproof paint. If your local planning department are helpful maybe an informal conversation to sound then out? I'm not that knowledgeable about the drainage...

    Garden Gym height options

Hi bolst3r, I was looking at doing something similar as I had the same requirement for greater height. The advice I got from here and was go for planning permission. Compared to the expense and hassle of sinking it in a correct manner so as to not suffer from damp, a couple of hundred quid on...

    ground screw shed base

I used groundscrews as my garden is not level. I liked them as a diyer because I could try again if I messed up. Also no lugging bags of sand/cement or mixing concrete. Downsides they are certainly not the cheapest option.

    Collapsing brick pillar

I'm going to speak to them soon, framing it as would you like me to help by... Looks like the most I can offer is to take it down safely so will go with that. Agreed there is no need to involve council as a starter for ten. I expect they won't mind the offer. Cheers Larry
