I can't give you any advice on that I'm afraid.
I wasn't removing a particularly large amount, perhaps only a 2 foot wide strip over 10 metres so I just used a particularly good sharp spade and got in underneath to lift about 2-3 inch thickness across the length.
With the sleepers, we also...
The guy just said to my gran she can't use it because it's dangerous and she would have to get a gas engineer to inspect it. He then told her she had to sign the paper to agree and then isolated it at the meter and left.
I will get in touch with BG and see what they have to say about it, stay...
I've always used a conservative amount of sticks like in combination with mechanical fixings spaced as required. Admittedly it's a must in my place where not a single wall is straight but even on plasterboard walls I put the odd screw through into the framing timber behind.
Got a similar project on at the moment due to my winter waterlogged garden in a high clay soil area.
I was actually planning of digging a big hole and sinking in a rainwater attenuation crate as a soakaway rather than bringing it into the combined sewer.
I was primarily concerned with silt...
I'm doing something similar in mine although the slope is a lot more pronounced, probably 4 feet or so higher at the top compared with the house. I thought about using sleepers to do it but elected to set in some footings and build walls instead.
The sleepers do a reasonably good job though...
I understand. I guess what I'm getting at is the gas engineer seemed to think it was pretty obvious it wasn't a sign of spillage and was just dust. I've heard of ones where they have said it's spillage and it was dirty fingerprints from when the boiler was installed or last serviced. Should...
I had the whole living room floor and joists out in mine a few years back, not long after buying the place. That was due to wood worm damage.
The previous owners had built a patio out back, above the damp proof course, blocking off an air brick, and just putting some DPC sheet vertically...
Afternoon all,
After a quick bit of advice deciding whether to complain to British Gas or not.
My grandmother had a visit from on of BG's smart meter 'experts' for her install. The installer noticed a grubby mark on the wall next to the boiler and categorised it as a sign of spillage told my...
My background is marine electrics so naturally we double pole everything on account most supplies being drawn from 3-phase insulated neutral and having no neutral conductor. Hadn't really thought about it in domestic but yeah DP the outside lamp switch would certainly make segregation for earth...
I hadn't quite caught that in the flow of conversation, but given that any electrical device should always have a means of control and safe disconnection from the supply perhaps that should be the first port of call for the OP. That would then provide this option, if supported as you stated.
Thanks Dan, despite not being a plumber the rest of my engineering experience said it was complete rubbish I just wanted to be armed with some second opinions.
Indeed I could have most certainly done better myself and took pride in it, perhaps your 10 year old could earn a few bob next time...
I bought one of these recently, https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-slimline-led-pir-floodlight-black-30w-cool-white/5625v, the documentation for that details a manual override mode which involves switching off the supply for a few seconds and then switching back on at which point the lamp will...
Thanks Rob much appreciated, I was fairly sure it was a complete bodge as it has all the hallmarks but my only experience with water supply regs is from reading up when planning to do it myself.
Evening all,
Had a company come out today to run in a new MDPE supply pipe to replace my existing lead. I was intending to do this myself but just didn't have the time to do it.
I had applied for permission for this work from my water supplier (Yorkshire Water) and under their lead replacement...
I use these occasionally for light loads but it tend to keep more of these guys in now https://www.screwfix.com/p/easyfix-hollow-wall-anchors-8-16mm-m5-x-52mm-10-pack/12229.
I feel they are generally better for heavier loads and you can use them on anything that is hollow, plasterboard, metal...
Couple here that look much more sturdy:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/BASKET-STRAINER-WASTE-SQUARE-OVERFLOW/dp/B00V6430LU.
These two specifically say they are for ceramic sinks, they are advertised as 40mm waste so will be made to metric standard, this can sometimes be an issue when you have a trap...
Cable routing options are going to be your first consideration as you say you cannot channel the walls. That being said I have seen log cabin setups where people boarded out, plastered and painted and they can look pretty smart.
As far as I am aware clipped direct is still an acceptable method...
Hopefully the pictures are working now? Sharing from Google Drive is a bit tetchy sometimes.
Gravel was my original intention, my builders merchants does a 9mm relatively cheap, most sources recommend 10-14mm for 110mm pipe so thought 9mm would be close enough. I am going to be putting a new...
Good Afternoon All,
Wondered if anyone might have some input on this, I've just replaced a short section of drain at the side of the house for the soil stack. The estate is circa 1930's onward combined sewer with original drains using VC pipe.
This was the original situation, at some point in...
