    Bathroom extractor fan not working

Thanks for the extra pics, having studied them the switch wiring looks ok apart from one cable being in the wrong connection, as mentioned by sparkwright. Please be advised that this is pure guess work on my part and i echo the comments that you are best calling in an electrician to safely...

    Bathroom extractor fan not working

I don't know why but that switch wiring doesn't look right to me and its just done badly, too much copper exposed and too many reds stuffed in that one terminal! It looks like you have two switches there, what do they each control? Also can you take a picture from the front so we can see the...

CCTV Upgrade advice - IP Cameras

Evening guys, I'm thinking of updating my CCTV at home from the current analogue cameras to IP, the main motive behind the change is to get HD cameras and to be able to access them remotely. I would really appreciate any suggestions of cameras worth considering, so far i really like the look...

An Electrician's Day (You Tube video series)

I'm subscribed to his channel and watched most of his videos, generally all good but have noticed a bit of corner cutting. Flex to lights in flowerbeds buried under the soil just in copex in one video and in his latest talks about joining the armour of armoured cable inside wiska boxes o_O

Problem with elderly neighbours heating - need some advice

Hi Guys, Thanks for all the replies much appreciated. I rang the installer last night, he couldn't explain why the old pump is still there and was sure he had bypassed it (he hasn't) but is coming back to remove it this week. Davey - no nothing like that just the old circulation pump in the...

Problem with elderly neighbours heating - need some advice

Hi Guys, Thanks for the replies so far, i understand how gravity systems work etc, seems the installer has joined the pipes from the cylinder to the flow/return from the old BB but has not removed the pump so its acting as a restriction when not running. Removing it would be simple with no major...

Problem with elderly neighbours heating - need some advice

Hi Guys, I got home late Sunday evening and my elderly neighbour was on the doorstep asking if i could pop in and have a brief look at her heating which wasn't working as it should. Long story short is that some rads were fine and others were stone cold, checked all the obvious to no avail...

Are these cables safe? PAT tester says not....?

Ok so some background here, i work in a college and across our estate we have 4000+ desktop computers and at least 3000+ are connected to the mains using what we call a Y splitter cable, 13amp plugtop to 2 x IEC female. Mr PAT tester has today said they are all unsafe as the plug is fitted with...

    Lampost box

Master node for radio controlled street lighting? The cell on the light does look a bit chunky to just be a standard photocell. Our council has migrated over to radio controlled street lighting across the entire county and we have master nodes dotted around the place, they look different to this...

    Large Junction Box

I prefer to use these for any larger/older stranded cables as makes terminations much easier: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/MK1132W.html https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/MK1133W.html

    LV Halogen to LED

I would suggest changing your existing lights for these LED ones: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/LTLD8WW.html Used them myself and they are brilliant, you already have 230v at each light so simple swap, they are dimmable, fire rated and IP65 so no issue using them in the bathroom.

    LED down light.

I used the debox on a recent install of downlights, never again! Awful little things, the push down cable restraints don't like more then one cable and wont clip in fully so keep popping open. Took them all back and exchanged for standard choc boxes with screw down clamps, I would never use the...

Is this light suitable for outside use?

I have two of these installed on my front steps and 6 of the letterbox type in the back garden, well constructed and decent lumen output for the price! I was able to bring the cables in from the rear of the fittings so there are no cables on show. Yes they are fine for outdoor use, i can get...

Wiring NEST 3rd GEN to Y-Plan, check my wiring please

FFS mate seriously get a pro in to do this for you as you're clearly out of your depth! Your wiring skills are appalling, no strain relief on any of the cables, colour coding all over the place, too much exposed copper on show on some connections and i dread to think how you've supplied power to...

Is this electrical cable or telephone?

Hey guys, going back to the original topic its been identified that the black cable is a TV distro system probably old and now obsolete rediffusion, but does anyone know what the smaller grey cable would be for as I'm curious? Its a shame we didn't see inside that junction box which itself looks...
