Where is the mesh filter on this inlet control group?

I'd like to clean the mesh filter. Cylinder manual says "Unscrew the head in the inlet control set and clean the mesh filter within". Which bit is that? (I know to depressurised everything before, don't worry) Thanks

Is my expansion vessel too small?

I've got a 300L unvented indirect cylinder with a 22L expansion vessel. All installed in 2011. Just been having some issues with the expansion vessel leaking air and while reading online I also leant that it could be too small. Apparently it should be at least 10% of the capacity of the...

Which one is the hugher quality valve? And where to buy?

Any names for online shops? I don't really know what's good and what's not.

Which one is the hugher quality valve? And where to buy?

I've had a few leaks from the spindles of my towel rads. Those leaky valves seem lower quality than another valve I found today in my spare parts cupboard. The bigger one is the one that's been leaking. The one with the brass (I assume) is the one I unearthed that I think is higher quality...

    WC soil connector leaking (Ed.)

In the end it was the white seal on the outlet on this that was loose: Although that white seal on the left was fairly tight in the soil pipe, it was loose on the actual pan connector it came on! I ended up buying a different model with a more substantial looking black seal and that seal was...

    WC soil connector leaking (Ed.)

All solved. I'll type it up later just for future reference if anyone has the same problem.

    WC soil connector leaking (Ed.)

I was very careful when inserting it to make sure nothing was moving out of shape so I'm fairly sure it's just too small. The pan connector specs are: 110mm Outlet 97-107mm Inlet I might just take it off again, clean, and reinsert to see if that sorts it.

Do interlinked mains powered fire alarms have standardised wiring?

I've got some old mains powered interlinked smoke alarms that need to be replaced and getting the same model is quite pricey compared to other options. Do they all share the same wiring? Mine uses 3 core and earth - live, neutral, and the interlink. I assume it's yes but wanted to double check...

    WC soil connector leaking (Ed.)

It's dripping ever so slightly out of the bottom of here: That's the new 90deg fitting including the rubber seal as pictured above. I did make sure to clean inside the old pipe before fitting so the seal would get clean contact. It didn't feel that tight either.

    WC soil connector leaking (Ed.)

I might have to do that - I fitted the pan connector and it's dripping. So is it just a piece of brown 110mm soil pipe that goes between that pan connector and Pipe B as labelled in my diagram?

    Stopcock leaking around spindle, fixable?

Why, are they more durable? I think I've having a lot of problems with leaks because the water here in the SW is very hard. I'm not sure how long stuff is supposed to last but about 5 valves have started leaking in the past year and my house was only built 13 years ago.

Can rad valve internal be replaced?

Got another flipping leak around a valve spindle, this time on a towel rail. Can internals be bought rather than the hassle of fitting a whole new valve? Just the front 'cartridge' bit or whatever it's called.

    Stopcock leaking around spindle, fixable?

As in just part of it, not the whole stopcock? And are they standard sizes and where can I find one?

    Stopcock leaking around spindle, fixable?

Ok thanks I'll give that a go. Yes I guess wrapping PTFE around the thread would be pointless as it's not leaking through the threads lol

    Stopcock leaking around spindle, fixable?

Water is coming out near the spindle and gets worse the more you open it. Can I undo the bit next to the spindle and put PTFE tape on it, or is it something else?

    WC soil connector leaking (Ed.)

Bit of a disaster and sorry for the graphic imagery. Just installed a new toilet with a concealed cistern behind a cabinet unit that extends to the sink. I thought I had it all fitted then took a number 2 only to realise brown water came gushing out from behind the cabinet. I do a lot of DIY but...

Small staircase, one hand rail on one side, open on other. OK?

Ah yes you're right - had to dig a little deeper: "1.37. In dwellings, provide guarding at the sides of flights and landings when there is a drop of more than 600mm."

Small staircase, one hand rail on one side, open on other. OK?

I've seen quite a few houses like this and I'd have thought if it was that unsafe it would be in the regs

Small staircase, one hand rail on one side, open on other. OK?

I have a split level bungalow with a small (900mm total rise, 800mm width) staircase where one side is against the wall and will have a handrail installed, while the other side is just open (no ballustrades, posts, handrails, nothing). I am planning to rent it out after finishing renovation, is...

Polishing black acrylic worktop, can't get it black

Just sorted it actuallty. It doesn't completely match the blackness of the factory finished edge but it's about 90% there. I ended up using a bit of candle wax and then buffed it.
