    Best Value White Emulsion?

Good for you (although the liberal use of PVA before any waterbased paint is a recipe for disaster further down the line). However, OP was asking about cheap white emulsion, not false economies with masonry painting.

    Best Value White Emulsion?

You get what you pay for, I'm afraid. The cheap 'deals' (e.g. 10 litres for £15) are just thicker paint watered down...so you need more coats. You can get contract white matt for abour £17 but that is pretty thin stuff as well and is best for mist coating. Dulux Trade often do the 7.5 litre...

    Which way to paste??

Some of the above makes it all sound horribly complicated, when it needn't be. I suggest: 1. Crossline the already sized wall with Mav Erfurt Wallrock Fibreliner. Paste the wall only, making sure that every square inch is pasted. Do not overlap at all, even if the wall is not totally flat. (It...

Best paint for black metal staircase?

Yes, the matt wasn't an option as it is apparently not durable enough to be walked upon, but the satin is, and it looks good.

Best paint for black metal staircase?

Hey, thanks! Did as you suggested and the results were excellent (even though I say it myself!) Blackfriars is good stuff methinks.

Best paint for black metal staircase?

Staircase treads are showing rust spots and customer wants a matt or satin finish, not high gloss. I'm thinking of using Hammerite satin. Can anyone think of a reason not to, or suggest a better product? Thanks!

    Interesting wallpapers for kids rooms?

Whatever you do, don't buy any wall paper from B & M. It's cheap...but the ink comes off. Rubbish stuff.

Chest of drawers coating ripped off due to stickers

Must we? I'd rather keep my clothes on, if you don't mind :D Re the sticker damage, in a word, no. That's the problem with plastic-veneered MDF furniture (as opposed to wood or wood veneered) - once it's gone, it's gone. You could go to a lot of time and trouble painting/varnishing it and...

    Painting over Bathroom Tiles

If the bathroom is really horrid, just make an ironic statement out of it by accentuating the grotesque and saving up until you can afford to do it properly. So, make it like a real student bathroom. Don't clean your shower for weeks on end, leave empty toilet roll inners everywhere and...

    Painting over Bathroom Tiles

Please don't paint the tiles. It looks really naff and screams 'student rental property'. Either tile on top of the existing ones, or leave them as they are - perhaps re-grout them. You will regret doing anything else, believe me...and it will take value off the property.

    Windows Sills + Frame

As you live near the sea it is especially important to invest in good quality materials if you want the paint to last several years. Either go for the Dulux Weathershield oilbased system, or Little Greene Traditional Oil paint. Both need an oilbased undercoat. As with all decorating, the...

Help with some wall painting problems

It is either a patch of damp, or the remains of a cat someone has squashed against the wall. I hope the former. What you do about it depends on the cause. Is it an outside wall? The crack could be due to a number of causes (plaster drying out, settlement, etc). Is it near a window or...

    water based paint???

If you want a slight sheen and a tough finish you could always use Little Greene eggshell (either oil based or acrylic). I believe the Sandtex is quite flat in comparison.

Restoring and painting a wood garden bench

Is it worth it? Those fixed-seat benches are hideously unconfortable.
