What is this - an external isolator?

Hi What is this switch show in this picture on the right? Is it an external isolator to the conservatory?

Air Source or Ground Source Heat Pump

Am I right in thinking therefore, the less insulated your home, the more grant you get? Even if you are asked to bring the house insulation up to a min standard, you are better off not better insulating the home to a super duper standard until after the head pump installation, so as to get the...

Air Source or Ground Source Heat Pump

The question is however, is it allowed. Having it is one thing and not declaring it is another.

Air Source or Ground Source Heat Pump

On what basis does RHI pay out, is it based on expected energy usage for the size of property when the initial assessment as done or actual consumption after the heat pump is installed? I ask only because if you have a large house but we are only using the pump to heat the usable areas, can we...

Air Source or Ground Source Heat Pump

I've had two companies (from the Valliant website that recommends installers) so far come around to inspect my property but I'm waiting for a quote. First one only deals with only ASHP and the second does ASHP and GSHP. No detailed surveys or heat loss calculations yet though I have given them...

Air Source or Ground Source Heat Pump

Are there any plumbers or specialists on here who are Air Source heat pump or Ground Source heat pump advocates? I was getting a quote for a ASHP, circa 11kw. Just want to understand the downsides of this. I have a large home where all three floors are wet Under Floor Heating. No existing...

    Preparing for garden makeover

I plan to get my garden landscaped later in the year. It's approx 18m wide and 42m in length. We're about to put down a concrete substrate for the patio which will contain porcelain tiles 6m deep and 15m wide immediately outside the patio doors. Not knowing how the garden will be designed and...

Potential dangerous solid fuel flue position

Sorry to bring this back to light, but how did this all end?

    Potential neighbour issues with fence

Yes, on all counts. His argument was that I should appreciate a helpful neighbour who has taken the trouble to get it fixed. The truth of the matter is, he is simply ensuring his own privacy is upheld and being a bully. I have just ignored his several text message, where he is now asking me...

    Potential neighbour issues with fence

I don't even know what was installed on the neighbour's fence side because I cannot see it from my side, but I guess it's mainly the labour cost associated with repairing the 1 or 2 wooden posts and then supporting / pinning "one or a few" other posts with concrete supports. I was not around...

    Potential neighbour issues with fence

Summarized edit Neighbour helped pay for my fence line some time ago, but insisted on non-concrete posts. A few of the panels recently came loose, leaning to his side. He made a unilateral decision to get this repaired at a cost of sub £500 and is asking me to contribute to the installation...

    Radiator balancing

I hace no access to the pump, its all built in to the Viessmann storage combi boiler. Is this not a case of balancing the ssytem though when a radiator does notsufficiently heat up?

    Radiator balancing

I always have heat output problems with one radiator in the house (loft bedroom but loft bathroom is fine). I've bled all the radiators in the house and even made sure that both sides of the valves in the bedroom are fully open. The radiator is hot on some days and not others. I'm guessing it...

Unable to unscrew a shower hose from the unit

Im really struggling with this. Any tool I try and use just doesnt grip the thumb screw as I turn it (the correct way around). Is there a type of tool which has a type of vice connected to a spanner which allows me to turn a long handle to tighten the jaws so that it compresses against the...

Unable to unscrew a shower hose from the unit

Yup, I know that now. I've changed hoses like these before so not sure why I woke up this morning whilst my brain still asleep ;) I had my younger nephew mechanical engineer take a look (I've now pulled a muscle in my lower back!), who says he cannot get a grip on the thread. Is there a type...

Unable to unscrew a shower hose from the unit

Obviously I’m not very good at opening thumb screws. I make a lovely cup of tea though.

Unable to unscrew a shower hose from the unit

errr ok..... I was looking at the nut "face on" and turning it anti-clockwise. That means according to your last comment, if I was to look at it from the bottom then I have just gone clockwise rather than anti-clockwise and tightened it by a few more mm! Right back to the shower tray!!

Unable to unscrew a shower hose from the unit

What did he mean from the top or bottom? I’m assuming he meant the top or the bottom of the same nut. this was the other red tool I referred to. Not sure the names of all these things - another type of spanner? I cannot get it the tool to grip with the but though so it slips everytime I try...

Unable to unscrew a shower hose from the unit

I've just tired the opposite end of the hose, and to remove the shower head, I need to unscrew it clockwise. Because the end connected to the mixer valve doesn't turn (well actually it turned a few mm when I used the following tool which I also found in a drawer just now), I'm unsure which way...
