Hi, I have 1 elbow fitting to be replaced. I've got a hep20 push fit elbow but no metal inserts... only plastic (JG super seal) Are these ok to use, mains pressure shower. I've only ever used steel ones but I'm a bit stuck. Thanks, Pg

    35mm OD pipe source?

Hi, I had a copper 35mm (it may be 36mm) outside diameter pipe running into a stack which was corroded. I'm on the ground floor flat so get it all. I've got it out, cut back and refitted but I'd really like to change to plastic pipe to avoid future corrosion. Bit it's an odd size. I've been...

Swap storage heaters circuits cost and time

Thanks everyone, turns out the timer or however they've set it up must be in the actual meter so the supplier needs to attend. Pg

Swap storage heaters circuits cost and time

Hi, I'd like to understand what's happening later when electrician visits. Have replaced storage heaters with panel heaters and asked energy company too put us over to normal tariff, not economy 7. The panel heater circuits are dead during the day. It seems the storage heaters run on a timer...

    Use 40mm as outer sleeve

Looks like I'll start next week with my bolster. Looking again today I'm optimistic they're breeze blocks which means easier to cut.

    Use 40mm as outer sleeve

Hi I'll try to get the pic up later but it seemed to be causing confusion. The wall, it's solid, floor to ceiling. When built I assume they must have laid the drainage and built up around it. I can reach round to the back of the stack and touch the pipe that I'm having troubles with but my...

    Use 40mm as outer sleeve

Hi, I don't really need to keep any of it but I can only cut back to the wall. I can't see or access the entry (other end of the pipe) to the stack. But yes, conduit (I used the word sleeve) would be ideal to house a smaller 32mm waste

    Use 40mm as outer sleeve

Yes that's summed it up. Solid wall, no access, pipe not tight. (makes me wonder how the hell did they build it) I'll have to get an engineer to check the structural side of things before I start on that. What a nightmare. This is up there with my worst :-/

    Use 40mm as outer sleeve

Hi, the joint you see is the pipe from bathroom sink (deleted that pic to avoid confusion) I have repaired, the other problem one comes in from the back/wall and if further up. There is no access, I can just about feel it but cannot get anything on it / cannot replace. With the bend I could...

    Use 40mm as outer sleeve

Hi, I've got a 40mm copper pipe washing up waste that runs into a stack behind the wall. The pipe moves so it must be loose at the join which inevitably will leak. At the other end, the join to the stack, access is non existent so unless I take out the wall, which in really reluctant to do, I...

Noisy pipes ball valve interchangeability Q

Hi There's a few posts on noisy pipes. In our flat the pressure was low but all was quiet, turned up the stop cock, pressure great but lot of noise when it refills. There toilet cistern is out/not fitted so that only leaves the immersion. My q is are all these valves interchangeable, will any...

    Repair hole in cast iron

Unfortunately I didn't take any but will. I think I described it well though, cast iron sink waste into cast iron stack, waste has corrosion/hole and leaking. I've used a product called fertan on cars, it's a rust inhibitor that neutralises rust so you can then wire brush it. Looking around the...

    Repair hole in cast iron

Hi, This was an unexpected joy, fitted new sink waste, simple enough. Sink had been out of action for couple weeks due to other jobs. Ground floor flat. The sink waste goes to a iron pipe into a cast iron stack. First test, bucket load of water from behind cupboard. There is a hole just at the...

Yes you are right, I meant RCD but typed MCB :-/ This is the one, image below. So 2 wires from the spur, 1 to the heater and the other to this RCD then down to shaver socket ?. Many thanks !

    Branch to shaver socket

Hi, There's an electric heater in our bathroom with cable running to it from a fused spur. We don't have a shaver socket for toothbrushe etc Would running 2 wires out from the spur, 1 to heater and another one to an MCB then to shaver socket be acceptable? Many thanks
