    Replacing Shower Cubicle

Hello I currently have a curved shower cubicle which is nearing the end of it's life. I haven't found the design of the shower to brilliant - for example, when we had problems with the waste we would have to rip up the cushioned lino and ply board then remove floor boards to get at the waste...

Thanks for the above. I will definitely take your advice on board.

    Yes, so was I.

    Trade Accounts

I tried a local merchant but he was out of stock until sometime next week. I had to take the hit and get it all from B&Q at £15 per sheet. Definitely going to get some trade accounts sorted for my next batch of buying :-)

    Trade Accounts

Went back to Jewson's today - medium size order (about £850) for sheet and plastering materials, the price they offered me was about 10% more than trade-point/B&Q. Looks like it all depends on who is serving you. I tried to get them to reduce their prices and they told me they already had...

Leyland Trade is an excellent product. I always thought Dulux was good till I started using Leyland Trade paints.

    The Media Section

I don't understand how the media section works. There are loads of pictures but I can't see questions asking for help/advice. How does this section work - I'm clearly missing something :-(

    Trade Accounts

I have a trade account at Selcos but they don't seem much cheaper than B and Q - should I be negotiating a discount?

So I am discovering. Where am I likely to get plastering materials cheaper than the trade sheds? I probably spend about £8k per year on plastering materials at B n Q/Wickes.

Grateful for feedback on prices with Jewson. I've refurbed quite a few properties in the last few years. I generally use B and Q/Wickes for all my plaster, plasterboard, wood, mdf and greenback t and g. Kitchens I usually buy from Howdens, electrics generally from screwfix or an electrical...

    Ridiculous costs for electrican's work?

I think OP is being stitched up. I have recently had a full rewire on a 3 bed detached house - including the wiring in garden and garage and that was less than £4k - Devon. If the property is being rewired, the sockets are done as a second fix not the first.

Very narrow strip of damp at floor level

The outside from ground level up is 10 courses of brick in height and above that it is rendered. Are you saying the inside plaster must finish above the DPC?

Very narrow strip of damp at floor level

I've got pictures on my phone so I will have a go at uploading them a bit later on. There isn't any damp coming up through the conctrete floor anywhere - it is solid and free of any moisture. The wall has been totally hacked back to the brickwork. The plaster went down to the floor. It did...

    Floorboards

The house is incredibly warm and no drafts. The floorboards that are down already are not tongue and groove - I will need to match up with these as I don't want to replace the whole flooring. I like the sound of the trapdoor access and the safe.

    Floorboards

Thank you. I was considering the 1.8 as thinking of transporting in the car. The other length was 2.4m. Yes, wickes are t and g, but the ones in the house are just plain edged floor boards. Should I avoid t and g? Is your price per sqm? or just per metre in length?

    Floorboards

Hi I have to lay some new floorboards Wickes do packs of 5 for £21.99 1.8m each. Is this a decent price? I think I will need about 10 packs. Feedback mentions they are a bit knotty. If I go for these floorboards, do the knots have to be treated? Floorboards will have underlay and capet...

Very narrow strip of damp at floor level

All downstairs floors are concrete. No timber floors except for upstairs.

Very narrow strip of damp at floor level

Ventilation is good. I've just popped outside to look at the wall and there is an airbrick just below the damp proof course. That is confusing me as the floors are solid and I thought the airbrick is to help air flow. There isn't an airbrick on the inside.

Very narrow strip of damp at floor level

Hi we are currently renovating our new house - downstairs has concrete floors. House is about 70 years old. On an external wall there was a piece of skirting board which just crumbled (from the base) as soon as you touched it. I've taken it off and also as we stripped the wall paper on the same...

    Wickes Solid Oak Skirting

Basically, am I likely to get a better or equal product elsewhere for less money than at Wickes. We do get 10% off at Wickes anyway. Howdens seem to be a fair bit dearer unless you haggle with them and I don't want to have that hassle.
