Just hired a Bricklayer... Not happy after second day

Just been and had a look and his dpc he is laying is offset so doesn't go all the way through the leaf. About 10mm is not covered. He said this is so he can get a level for next course otherwise he will likely get a step. Surely this is not right?

Just hired a Bricklayer... Not happy after second day

No I guess not. Just stressing me out! I've had this thing in my head for months. Was gonna lay blocks myself and now letting someone else do it is hard cos they ain't doing it how I would do it.

Just hired a Bricklayer... Not happy after second day

They are currently laying these blocks with what looks like at least a 50mm bed on them. Surely this is not good? Is this acceptable. I'm getting so annoyed! My beam and block floor was level over 12meters within 3mm. They are now laying blocks on it with a 50mm bed one end and a 10mm bed the...

Just hired a Bricklayer... Not happy after second day

Work quality I would say is average but maybe too eairly to tell. Seem relitivly tidy. Not much slowing em down that I can see. A bit drizzly thisafternoon but carried on laying. I just feel like I would be quicker... Never a good sign.

Just hired a Bricklayer... Not happy after second day

Nothing in writing but turn up at 8, leave at 4. Few cups of tea, 30-40 min lunch break. Even for day rate I expected them to be a bit quicker tbh.

Just hired a Bricklayer... Not happy after second day

Had a Bricklayer start on Tuesday with a laborer. £250 a day for both. 40m2 extension, beam and block floor already layed. Need them to lay 500 brick plus 42 blocks up to damp then 600 blocks above damp. So far after 2 days they have layed 42 blocks and 344 bricks. Yes they speny 20 mins...

Ground below beam and block floor

Spoke to BCO today who said he wasn't worried about a membrain or oversite as the ground is generally very sandy and drains very well. He just wants to see where the beams sit on the wall, air ducts and a 150mm air gap.

Ground below beam and block floor

Architect has put 40mm oversite on drawing but this would leave potential for a build up of water as discussed. I have not mentioned this to him. Maybe I should just chuck oversite on it. I dunno.

Ground below beam and block floor

Because the architect specified it... Reason being that we are on a bit of a slope and the ground we are building on is mostly made-up ground... Unsuitable for a normal slab. Trust me... I would rather do a slab if I could!

Ground below beam and block floor

I'm sorry I don't understand. External floor level is 150mm below my internal, finished, screeded floor. Below my floor I will have 75mm screed, 100mm insulation (I'm now 25mm below external floor level), 150mm beam and then 150mm void so in total my proposed oversite will be 325mm below...

Ground below beam and block floor

Because that would bring the level of the oversite too close to the concrete beams... They need 150mm gap

Ground below beam and block floor

Just looking into the 50mm oversite option. The only issue I see is that the oversite will be at least 150mm lower than the outside ground level and have read that a permiable membrane plus gravel is a better option in this case. Either that or add a drain into the oversite which seems way ott.

Ground below beam and block floor

Yep I could do that but still not really sure what BC are looking for etc and 50mm oversite us a lot of work if it's nit required. Some people seem to just have bare earth, some just put some hardcore on top, some put a membrane and some put an oversite on. Very confusing. Think I'm going to...
