    What's allowed

So if I'm doing the work, then should I be issuing the installation certificate / minor works certificate?

    What's allowed

This is what I meant by "sign off". Who should be inspecting it? And what are the "appropriate certificates"? Who issues them?

    What's allowed

Thanks. I might be able to run the cable through the floor joists instead of plastering in, so I guess being able to lift the floorboards to inspect the cable would help with sign off. In the garage, it's just the ceiling that was plastered, so I had to run the cables in the ceiling void before...

    What's allowed

We're doing a whole bunch of renovation on our house, and we keep being let down by electricians either not answering the phone, not turning up to give us a quote, or coming to look and not sending us a quote for the work. Meanwhile, other stuff is moving along and we've got plasterers etc...

    Cable in wall cavity

I need to run cable between my garage and the consumer unit in the house. There's a small doorway through from the loft space above the garage into the upstairs of the main house, as can be seen in the first picture. The second picture shows the outside of the garage roof joining on to the wall...

    Drop ceiling construction

I'm not sure about finishing the edge. I'll be getting a plasterer in to skim the ceiling. Is there some kind of beading or profile or something I can put around to keep a clean edge before it's skimmed? I don't think the gap would be enough to see up the side unless you were really looking up...

    Drop ceiling construction

I'm struggling to find an angle bracket of the right size to use to support the C-sections around the perimeter. Would something like this be enough? https://www.screwfix.com/p/magnodur-nailing-plates-matt-steel-100m-x-2-5mm-x-35mm-10-pack/416jf

    Drop ceiling construction

I was working from this guide: https://mf-ceilings.co.uk/how-to-install-mf-ceilings/ From that, the main steps are: - Install the MF6 perimeter - Install the hanger angles down from the joists (in a 1200mm x 1200mm grid) - Install the primary channels (MF7) across the room in one direction...

    Drop ceiling construction

Thanks for the replies. It definitely seems like MF is going to be the easier and lighter way to do it. I'm still not sure about how to fix the C-section wall profiles though, as they won't be fixed to the wall. I'd need some way to support them. I'm thinking something like this might work...

    Drop ceiling construction

I'm planning on creating a drop ceiling for our living room (1970s house), so that we can have a shadow gap + LED strips around the edge, install some LED downlights, soundproof insulation, and a couple of ceiling speakers. There's a bedroom above and you can hear the TV when it's loud. I was...

    Levelling floor for laminate

We were originally going to get vinyl in our kitchen, so we overboarded the floorboards with 6mm plywood, and have fitted all the units on top. We've now decided to get laminate flooring in the hallway and through into the kitchen (3 bed semi with the hallway running through a doorway to the...

Cracks and white stuff in loft

OK thanks, that's good to know. Puts my mind at ease :) Cheers.

Cracks and white stuff in loft

I've noticed a couple of things in our loft and I'm not sure whether or not they're serious or OK, so I'll list the things below and hopefully get some advice. Some background on the house - It's a late 1950s / early 1960s semi detached in Manchester, UK. The previous owner hadn't done much to...
