    cable in ceiling space

I've threaded a 6mm t&e cable through a ceiling void to an external wall in order to power a 7KW EV charger. Obviously, its difficult to pin the cable to joists to get clearnce from the ceiling. In this case, does the cable need to be in protective duct or is it not necessary as its RCD...

    Connecting t&e to swa

I'm planning to have a 5KW electric car charger installed at my house. Unfortunately, the CU is on the other side of the house to where I want the charger installed so I'm in the process of feeding a 6mm t&e cable through the house from the CU to keep things neat. I'm presuming I need to change...

    Concrete Roof Valley Leaking

I have a bungalow with a concrete tiled roof and the concrete valley leaks slightly in heavy rain. I've attached some pics of the valley which looks to have had bitumen sealant applied at certain times during its life. Based on the pictures, what do you think is the most appropriate fix? I...

Thanks for that - that's a start. Anything out of a tube to take out the seasonal movement??

    Concrete Driveway Cracks

Is an epoxy resin the best solution such as Resincoat. Its quite expensive so I thought I'd ask for advice first...

    Concrete Driveway Cracks

I have along concrete crack in my driveway which is about 15 years old. The crack is only a couple of millimetres wide, probably caused by shrinkage. I plan to chase out this crack shortly in advance of sealing it with something. My question is, what product do you recommend to do a neat...

Warranty on Electrical works contracted to a builder

I do remember signing the contract, so the work was between myself and the builder. I received no copy of the contract as the works were managed by a surveyor appointed by the insurance company. The builders haven't refused to do the work yet so I may be jumping the gun. I'm just a little...

Warranty on Electrical works contracted to a builder

Thanks for the feedback. Just to clarify, if I purchased the downlight units from Screwfix or anywhere else, I would be getting a 3 year guarantee. Is it not reasonable for the builder/electrician to pass this guarantee to me or am I asking too much? Also, you say there will be a 1 year...

Warranty on Electrical works contracted to a builder

I have had building work and a full electrical rewire carried out as a result of burst pipes and flooding. This was carried out by a building firm appointed by my insurance company. The overall drying out and building works have taken an age and the best part three years. I remember signing a...

    Failed RCD in Consumer Unit??

Thanks for the info. I'm asking because the RCD which fails after a power cut is the one with the freezer on it. All food in the freezer will be lost following a very short power cut which would be annoying, especially if this can be avoided with a replacement RCD which doesn't trip.

    Failed RCD in Consumer Unit??

Throughout the last few nights the electricity supply to my house has been regularly cutting out very briefly. The smart meter has been buzzing and doing all sorts of strange things along with one of the RCD's in the consumer unit tripping. This morning, I contacted UKPN who confirmed they have...

    RCD tripping in Consumer Unit

Thanks for everyones help but I may have found the source of the problem. Throughout last night the electricity supply was regularly cutting out, the smart meter was buzzing and doing all sorts of strange things and the RCD was also tripping. During the night, I saw that my neighbours still had...

    RCD tripping in Consumer Unit

All good stuff... If we assume that the o/s security camera is the problem, is there anything that can be done to make it less likely to trip the lighting circuit and hence the RCD? To recap, its a relatively cheap unit on the o/s wall which catches a great deal of the prevailing weather and is...

    RCD tripping in Consumer Unit

So can I assume its not a straightforward exercise to put the kitchen ring onto a RCBO in a CU full of MCB's and 2 RCD's - shame! Alarms on the freezers sound good although the real problem is when you are away from home. Any other ideas gratefully received....

    RCD tripping in Consumer Unit

aah good to know I'm not overloading the main..... Knowing what you know about my electrics, would it be a good idea to get an electrician to provide an RCBO for just the kitchen ringmain to stop unwanted trips from the o/s security light, for example, tripping the RCD and causing the 2...

    RCD tripping in Consumer Unit

Still not 100% sure that the security light is the problem? I have to ask again whether its OK to run a fridge freezer and another freezer continually on the 32A ring? Obviously all the other appliances are only in operation when required.

    RCD tripping in Consumer Unit

Not in my case.... The security light was professionally installed as part of the new wiring installation. The plastic junction box is water tight and everything looked completely dry.

    RCD tripping in Consumer Unit

Not sure where I should go from here? Nothing has tripped today so I'm guessing whatever was damp (or whatever) has dried out and is currently not a problem. What I'm concerned about now is the problem reoccurring and I loose the contents of the 2 freezers, especially not knowing where the...

    RCD tripping in Consumer Unit

Thanks for the info. I guess an RCBO CU should have been the way to go in retrospect. If I understand you correctly, checking the colour of the wiring in the security light wall switch will confirm line - earth or or neutral - earth. If its line - earth, I can turn the security light off at the...

    RCD tripping in Consumer Unit

Hi, My house was totally rewired about 18 months ago. The new consumer unit has 2 RCD's, one of which started to trip intermittently last night. Circuits on this RCD include the kitchen and 1st floor ring mains along with the ground floor lighting circuit. No MCB's are tripping. There are 2...
