    How to stop drains gurgling

I may have pooped up my drainage plumbing. When my bathroom was fitted 3 years ago the basin and bath drains went out into a downpipe with a gulley at the top. I altered this so they now join together outside and go into the soil stack via a strap on. This was done because the drain this went...

    End of life car options

No, i'm not dying, the car is. Its a peugeot 207 on an 07 plate. It has the following issues: Front wheel knocking when going round bends Strong smell of fumes when stationery, suspect exhaust leak. Oil leak on water pump, expensive to fix (had this for 3 mots but getting worse now) Issue with...

    Pond safety fencing

This is what I opted for. Its not the strongest fence granted but if we have any failure incidents I will beef up the posts with timber. Very pleased with it myself. Total cost for the fencing was £140 from b&q.

    Pond safety fencing

I will add as well that I only built the pond because my mum and dad wanted rid of theirs so I agreed to take the fish. I'd always wanted a pond, just bad timing with a new born at the time (who has just started crawling) and a 5 year old!

    Pond safety fencing

Thanks for the suggestions folks, appreciate it. I've attached an image of the pond. As you can see the garden isn't finished which makes it harder to do anything permanent right now. I've looked at that wire mesh and rebar before but I know it rusts which isn't ideal. I think I will go down...

    Pond safety fencing

I built a pond in my garden last year. It is ground level and I have kids so I want to build a fence around it. The fence needs to be sturdy yet allow kids to put their hands through to feed the fish. I've seen some metal wrought iron stuff at b&q which looks ideal but it's a bit pricey and the...

    Elecrrical Jobs in South Yorkshire

Guys I am after an opportunity. Its a long shot but rarer things have happened. Im hoping this post will be allowed given my long standing contribution to this forum. All through school I wanted to be an electrician. It was my dream. I'm forever looking up at lighting, cables, tray etc and wish...

    Worktop mitres

What I was going to do was do the two female joints and get those tops into position and cut the sink out while I can slide that top in and out. Lay the long length on top/below roughly where it needs to be and draw a line at the left end to get the right angle. Cut the left male end. Then lay...

    Worktop mitres

The way I was thinking of doing it was to do both the female ends and sink cutout, place them in position, then lay the long piece on top in situ to mark the under side at both ends. Would this be possible? I'm tiling the splashback so I've got about 10-15mm leeway in total.

    Worktop mitres

I'm going to attempt mitre joints on my grandma's new kitchen worktops. I'm going to hire a router and jig for a day. I have fitted two kitchens before, but always left the worktops well alone. Im feeling confident that i can do this now though. The problem is the layout. See the photos...

    Wireless solenoid doorbell

Yes but it's a hideous synthetic ding dong. And it does it twice for some bizarre reason. I want proper physical chimes.

    Wireless solenoid doorbell

I recently bought a cheap wireless doorbell. It sounds terrible. It has about a thousand different chimes to choose from. It even plays greensleaves and all manner of dreadful Xmas music. However all I want is a solenoid ding dong mains powered doorbell. But running a cable would be a hard job...

    Basin waste

I got one of those from screwfix today. It was too long! So i sawed off the bottom of the adjustable bit, deburred it and it fits. But the waste leaks, so i took it out and siliconed the bottom of the waste up, before putting the washer and bolt back on tight. I smoothed off the silicone on the...

    Basin waste

Our basin wasnt draining so i took off the u bend. It was slightly gunked but not major. The blockage was in the basin waste itself. No way to rod it in situ (it was a click-clack with captive plug). I undid the plastic bolt holding the waste in and the bolt split. It had been fitted with...

The existing windows, though fitted in 1991 are in very good condition. No Draughts. So the job isn't urgent and I'm not fussed if the job doesn't go ahead right now!

    scaffolding required?

They didn't tell me they'd been around for years. I went into this with my eyes open. I think I'll just tell them I'm not paying any extra. I suspect if I hadn't haggled down the price they wouldn't be chasing me for extra. The initial price was £3500. Got them down to £1200. They'll either...

    scaffolding required?

Yes it's safeglaze. They're doing the front 3 windows for £1200 all in. Now come back with this extra charge we can ill afford. Could I try to convince them scaff isn't required? Or refuse to pay the extra and then hope they do the work anyway? The old windows are externally glazed. New ones...
