    2 switches to operate light

Hello, I have two switches for the landing light, one at the bottom of the stairs and one at the top. I have to turn both of the switches on in order to get the light to work. I presume they're wired incorrectly, but what shall I expect when removing them? How should they be wired? Thanks.

Urgent help - pipe not connected to stopcock?

I've turned off my stopcock and drained all the system. I'm wanting to remove a capped pipe which comes from the airing cupboard presumably from the old boiler. It's now on a combi. I've started to cut the pipe but now it's dripping and has not stopped. I've not cut all the way through it. I...

Gap in roof next to flue

Cheers all. Had another look and it's clear a bed of mortar has dropped down. It's not currently been leaking which is a suprise... I'll get on it before I have any problems! Regarding the flue, how does this actually run? I'm in a semi detached property and it looked like it goes into the...

Gap in roof next to flue

Sounds like something I can't rectify from inside! Something easily sorted by any decent roofer I expect?

Gap in roof next to flue

In the loft we have what appears to be a gas flue that exits through the roof. This flue isn't active (as far as I know... fire in lounge was removed). Looking up there is a gap right next to the flue and I can see daylight. I presume this isn't right...?

    Old water heater? Pipe identification

I've already written on the pipes, so that's no problem. Today I've been into the loft again and there has been 2 water tanks in there. The largest was removed but the other small one was empty but not disconnected. I've cut off the pipe with the valve and pulled the tank out the way. If...

    Outdoor light - safe zones

Following on from this, I have run new 4 core cable from the light fitting to the new 2 gang switch. I have then chased the wall and run new twin and earth to the existing outdoor light fitting then back to the 2 gang switch. Couldn't have done it without @flameport and his guide, so thanks so...

    Old water heater? Pipe identification

Following on from this, I've scanned the pipe with an ultrasonic transducer and there's water inside but not all the way through to the end. If it was at mains pressure I'd expect it to be under pressure and completely full? Or is it likely that its just an air bubble at the end? Definitely...

    Moving optima compact alarm

It all worked as intended when directly mains fed but when the power went off it was just dead. The battery was measuring 6V so presume the external siren died also on its backup? I've decided not to move it anyway. I'll just go to a wireless system.

    Moving optima compact alarm

For people looking back at this, I removed the battery and nothing sounded. Presume the outdoor siren died on battery power a long time ago.

    Moving optima compact alarm

Just getting back to this and I have the front panel off the control panel. My battery is only outputting 6v, its meant to be 12v. Does this mean if I remove the battery its unlikely the outside siren will sound?

What could be the cause of this leak?

Water will track to the lowest point so always remember that!

    Grant Vortex main tank burst

Yeah it's not new, approx 10 years old now. This has been serviced yearly but given no end of problems. Frustratingly boiler repairs are covered to the cost of 1000, but full replacement only to 250. What's the reason the tank itself couldn't be replaced? Interestingly I can't find parts...
