    insulation

I find cutting solid insulation (celotex) tricky to get straight. if I want 100mm it there any downside to buying two lots of 50mm and sandwiching them together? (apart from cutting twice). Price seems about the same.

    framing floor

they look expensive, on reflection I think maybe I use 6x2 for the floor and support on blocks laid dry onto the concrete base with a DPC underneath? Ill then fill with celotex at 100-125mm and overlay with 10mm celotex to prevent a cold bridge through the joists and then 18mm ply. does sound ok?

    framing floor

I'm planning to build a 6x3m garden room, i'll be framing in 4x2. customer already has a solid concrete base in place and was wondering if I good lay the floor directly on the concrete as we are up against the 2.5m rule. Could I get away with 4x2 for the floor joists at 600 centres or should I...

Hi all, Im looking at a plug timer for a heater in a rented cabin. I don’t want a set timer I’m looking for something like the light switches you find in a block of flats where you push it in and it comes on for a set time like 30 mins. I’m finding my renters are leaving the heating on when...

    extending Eves for external insulation

I'm looking at the gable and also the left hand side floor to roof. ill have to come out enough to cover the chimney breast but hoping to still be able to get under the soffit even if it means no EWI over the chimney breast. I plan on going around the corner for 2 feet or so probably to a first...

    extending Eves for external insulation

Thanks for advice chaps, Once you have the right jargon makes Google work so much better! Anyone got any ideas as the cost for extending my verge out by a foot or so including new facia/soffit etc?

    extending Eves for external insulation

I am wondering if for cost/ease issues could I not just add some sort of capping to the top of the EWI/Cladding. I assume it will be quite thick though and obviously wouldn't want it to look stupid?

    extending Eves for external insulation

yes thanks I guess I mean the verges then. (the bit with the V), you can just make out the new extension to the right which has a much larger overhang. I guess I would be looking to match it all up.

    extending Eves for external insulation

added a phot to show what. I mean, the overhang is currently about 40mm will need closer to 150-200mm (at a guess).

    extending Eves for external insulation

bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question but How easy/costly would it be to extend the eaves on my house to allow for the extra thickness of external insulation/cladding. Its really for the gable end bit sorry not up with the jargon. Basically, it is a simple job of striping the...

yep tried that apparently dimensions don’t fit machine. yep that’s the way I’m leaning. actually ordered ( and returned) something similar but that’s very expensive and too heavy duty.

    custom metal work

something like this with the middle bit 50mm and the sides 30mm and not to thick maybe 2-3mm. Its really just to dress the edges of the hatchway so not looking for anything too heavy/rigid.

    custom metal work

i've been trying to get hold of some Aluminium or s/s trim to line a hatchway. Its got to be 50mm wide with approx 30mm edges. Any idea where to find this? i've phoned dozens of places and can't find anything remotely suitable. Closest i've got it UPVC 'L' shaped trim to double up with which...
