Odd wooden patch in brickwork under plaster?

I posted on local Nextdoor forum. No-one knows what it is, but a neighbour very quickly asked if it was the wall adjoining his property! (it wasnt). :-) I'll see if I can pick up one of the cheapish Aldi inspection cameras at the weekend and have a look. But another thing I was wondering...

Odd wooden patch in brickwork under plaster?

Yes, there were quite a few custom carved plugs jammed into the joints. Most of the mortar is ok, but there are some gaps (with a bit of a breeze coming in). I plan to repoint all the gaps with lime mortar. I may also replace that wooden patch with a new brick whilst I'm at it. Will be...

Odd wooden patch in brickwork under plaster?

I removed the plaster from a wall in my Victorian flat, and found this odd wooden patch. It looks like a brick has been removed, and another brick partially cut down in size. Anyone know what this might have been? Why hide a wooden patch behind plaster? Why not just put a brick in the...

Vinyl planks on floor with two small changes in angle?

I have a hallway which is approx 1m perfectly level, then there is a change to a slight downwards gradient (0.57 degrees, or 20mm over 2m) for 2m, then it levels off again for the last 2 or 3 m. Are those two changes in gradient enough to cause problems if I want to get vinyl planks fitted...

Wrecked boards and badly cut joists

Hi Silver50, I was in exactly the same position as you a few years ago (also in an old Edinburgh property). My solution was to bridge the gap with 25mm plywood. Its strong enough so that the long edges do not need supported. I put together a cut-list, then had the timber merchant cut it...

Then 6mm plywood sheets over the top.

Use 25mm plywood. Thick enough so that I didnt need to add noggins (no space for them). Additionally, the old electric conduit boxes were sitting proud of joists, so used a router to cutaway part of the underside.

    Placing boiler in bathroom?

OP here .... I've been using the same heating engineer / plumber since moving in to this property 4 years ago. Just after moving in, I had a complete new pressurized HW system fitted, replacing lead pipe, and a lot of radiators replaced. This was the first time I used this engineer (via...

    Placing boiler in bathroom?

Yes, will be balanced flue. (I thought that was standard for modern domestic condensing boilers?)

    Placing boiler in bathroom?

I would be getting a new condensing boiler fitted, rather than try and move the current boiler. Probably a Worcester Bosch or Viessman. Electrics to this bathroom (for washing machine socket) would be a new circuit run from the CU (I had a full rewire done when I moved in 4 years ago, so CU is...

    Placing boiler in bathroom?

Thanks for all the replies. I should add that this is *not* the main bathroom of the flat. That’s on the floor above where the bedrooms are. The shower in here will be rarely used ... probably just the odd occasion when I have a guest staying. It will mostly be used for a downstairs wc...

    Placing boiler in bathroom?

I have a downstairs bathroom (approx 2.5 x 2.5m), that previously had a shower, whb and wc. I'd like to reconfigure it to also include the boiler and washing machine (so I can move them from the open plan kitchen/diner). Is this allowed? Due to the large window on one wall, the shower...
