    Hotpoint washing machine problems

Well I've got my eye on a £369 Samsung Ecobubble. But, as this is a washer dryer, might be nice to keep it if it's a simple fix.

    Hotpoint washing machine problems

My 20+ year old washer dryer has been stopping mid rinse cycle. It also won't go into the final spin anymore. The drum doesn't turn anymore, not even when using the dryer. The motor makes a noise though. I've removed the top and back cover to have a look. The drive belt is fine and turns the...

    Turf Straight Onto Weed Membrane?

I'm interested in this idea too. If it really works, does it mean I wouldn't need to turn all my hard soil over to remove all the thistles, stinging nettles and other weed roots, and just lay turf over the membrane? Or is it too good to be true?

    New bird bath

Yes, I thought it was a good price too! :) Mostly, stone bird baths are upwards of £60. Actually, I was told by a friend that the dirty look is intentionally built into the moulds when they cast it. Good point. Problem is that my patio areas are narrow and close to either my kitchen window or...

    New bird bath

Yeah, apparently autumn and spring are the best times. My worry is the preparation of the garden and if I'm able to do it. It's about 30 foot by 15, so not that big, but there's been a network of weed roots for a long time, mostly in the front half of the area. Last week I cut down tons of very...

    New bird bath

Lol, it used to be a nice lawn. Pretty much just straw now! :p At some point I need to get it turned over, remove a ton of weed roots and then get some seeds or turf put down.

    New bird bath

Hello guys. I just bought this new birdbath today from a garden centre for £38. Pretty heavy stone, nice and solid. I was considering pressure washing it to get rid of the brown 'rusty' looking dirt. Someone told me that people go to a lot of effort to get the same aged look. To me, it just...

    Stiff kitchen tap

Due to popular demand and many requests, I've decided to celebrate my thread with you all and bring it to page 1 again. (y)

    Stiff kitchen tap

Hello all. :) Only a minor problem really. My single lever kitchen tap was installed in 2012 and still works great but it's becoming a little stiff. Here's a video to show you. It looks like it's smooth enough but it has developed some friction where it's harder to change from cold to warm to...

    Silicone around bathroom wash basin

Well, after a little practise inside a cardboard box and getting used to it, I finally did the basin. I had to pump some more over what I'd done as there wasn't enough in places, it takes some practise feeling how hard to push the trigger. Struggled on the end bits and sides and I didn't...

    Silicone around bathroom wash basin

Thanks for your reply wgt52, the wall seems very clean now. Last night I put HG mould spray on, I'm just waiting a bit longer for that to completely dry behind the basin down in the tiny joint gap, I could do with a hairdryer to speed it up. Then I'm putting Iso Alcohol on it which should...

    Silicone around bathroom wash basin

Thanks for the advice lostinthelight. Yes, I discovered I need to use the flat side opposite to the bevelled. Thanks for that link, I'll have a read. I put a load of HG Mould remover on the area, left it 30 minutes and rinsed it off and dried it. I've got 70% Isoproply Alcohol as my final step...

    Silicone around bathroom wash basin

Ah I see. That makes it more complicated for me. I was going to cut the nozzle to 10mm, the same size of the profile edge. Should I cut the nozzle smaller first, run the smaller bead, then cut the nozzle again to match the profile? And do I smooth the smaller bead before letting it go off or...

    Silicone around bathroom wash basin

I've no idea what you just said, can you elaborate? :)

    Silicone around bathroom wash basin

Hah, yeah it would be nice to get good at this as I want to do around the bath next. :D I'm not sure what I can practise on though. Maybe the inside joints of a stiff cardboard box?

    Silicone around bathroom wash basin

Thanks Iamchamps. Only the smallest angle will work on my sink. Here's what it looks like against the joint. Is it ok and should I pull it back at an angle like my second photo or keep it vertical like in the first photo? Also, does it matter which face of the plastic is in the direction I'm...

    Silicone around bathroom wash basin

I agree, it does look a bit big. I can't find a single Fugi tool to buy without buying a whole kit. Sooooo, how about this Diall one from B&Q? https://www.diy.com/departments/diall-smoothing-sealant-tool/1642133_BQ.prd Looks like a Fugi one I think. Says "Includes a choice of three...

Yeah, I'll practise on something first. But what about the tool I have, using my finger and water retention?

    Silicone around bathroom wash basin

Hello guys. I'm new to re-doing silicone, never used a silicone gun in my life. I spent some time yesterday removing clear silicone from my very small bathroom wash basin. Hard work and none of it came off in one piece, very bitty. And then I put No Nonsense sealant remover on which helped me...

    Strange circles on patio slabs

Yep they were cheap. Apparently it's a waiting game, but in two years there's no improvement on mine so I think it's either permanent or I won't see a change in my lifetime. I didn't do the work myself so I cant comment on the details of how it was done it or what was added, but I found this...
