wiring for downlight connection above ceiling

Hi I am planning to install downlights in my lounge ceiling, but I am wondering what the best method is for wiring the lights together. The problem is that the various joists above the ceiling seems to be a big obstacle, since I cannot locate any gaps between the ceiling and the flooring on...

All my Varilight soft touch dimmers brightens and dims

I will probably try to fix it in 2 months time when I return back ...as the property is in another continent. I am not entirely sure that the wiring is at fault, since the lights did work normal for one day after it had shown problems...I may add that this particular day it was sunny and less...

All my Varilight soft touch dimmers brightens and dims

breezer A Varilight helpline techy did say that their soft-touch dimmers have shown problems when used in kitchens where steam from either kettles or just cooking has affected its behaviour. Apparently the extra humidity affects the dimmer's contacts....so perhaps my point about testing for...

All my Varilight soft touch dimmers brightens and dims

I have called Varilight helpline...and they cannot understand why the lightst would brighten and dim in a cycle. They suspect it could be the atmospheric pressure (the flat is in a region which has hot humid summers)...this could explain why it was working normally previously. since I am...

Hi I had all my old dimmer switches replaced with Varilight soft touch dimmers. of different power handling models, and were working fine until quite recently. Now all the sets of LV downlights that are controlled by the new Varilight dimmers continuously dims and brightens...the only way...

no hot water from mixer tap and pump

I have finally rectified the problem...well not properly ...but at least I managed to get the pump to activate. I changed the hot water flexi tubing to one of those copper version ( 15mm at one end and the other end is tapered to the same size as the flexi tube to screw into the tap). This...

no hot water from mixer tap and pump

I have a feeling that even if I was able to locate and remove the restrictor within the tap itself, the problem will still exist, since the pump can not be activated once the flexi pipe is connected....even without the tap itself. I guess oilman is right.....a new low pressure tap is needed.

no hot water from mixer tap and pump

Yes AdamW, I get hot water from the just the isolation valve both with and without the pump. The flow is not great, however this was to be expected since I live in a flat, and the cold water tank is only at head height. But as soon as I attach the flexible tap connector (not connected to the...

no hot water from mixer tap and pump

I have recently installed a kitchen mixer tap (shower head type) and have not been able to get any hot water out of it. I tried to solve the problem by installing a single pump (Contract Twin 50) to boost the hot water supply to the tap. Unfortuntately, it seems that the pump cannot be...

    above-ceiling wiring technique required.

Hi I am planning to install several LV halogen downlights in my loft-conversion room - where access to the upper side of the ceiling is virtually impossible. Can anybody please advice me in what the best way is to thread/guide the necessary wiring from one downlight hole to another. Are...

single ended pump for whole house

Do I use a twin or single ended pump ? Will I not have a problem with a twin ended pump since all the cold taps are supplied from the rising main? Am I correct to understand that a single ended pump can be connected between the hot water storage and the mixer taps, where it mixes with the...

single ended pump for whole house

How do I find out where the mixing takes place? I am planning to use ordinary mixer taps from an UK DIY store. I guess if there are pumps available for pumping an entire house, it must be ok to add a single impeller pump just for the hot water, even if this pumped hot water is supplying a...

single ended pump for whole house

The hot water is heated and stored in a hot water cylinder by an electric immersion heater. In fact all the cold water taps, including both bathroom taps and kitchen tap and supplied from the rising main. I know this because I have kept the cold water cystern tank empty, but yet cold water is...

single ended pump for whole house

Hi The hot water supply to my entire flat is very low, and I am planning to install a single ended water pump just for the hot water supply. The problem that I think I may have is with the supply to my kitchen mixer tap, since the cold water supply to this tap is from the rising mains, and...

LV Downlight cover/not cover with loft Insulation

Thanks for the reply. In that case do I have to get one of the fire prevention covers? They cost around £10 each !! Or do I just cut out an adequate hole in the insulation material?

consumer unit humming after Low Voltage lighting with dimmer

Thanks iL78 for your comment however, I still get the humming noise when I turn just the hallway dimmer to half-dim ( with the living room lights off). That dimmer switch (250W) is only controlling a total of 175W LV lights.
