Which disc to use for cutting a channel with angle grinder ?

I had a load of channels to cut (for a kitchen), sealed myself into the room with masking tape all round the doors, wore a good quality mask and having drawn the lines in black marker, just did them all in around 30 mins. Opened the windows to let out the majority of the dust, unsealed one door...

Kitchen Floor - Tiling over existing tiles and patching...

I've just had my kitchen plastered, all the walls and the ceiling and I'm now ready to do the floor. I'd appreciate some advice before I start though: 1. I intend to tile over the existing quarry tiles - much faster and easier but are there any pitfalls to avoid? Do I have to apply any PVA...

    Dimming cabinet lights

Hi, I've been looking for ages for suitable cabinet lights and found some in Ikea - a set of three LV stainless steel units complete with electronic transformer, for £10. Now I've read enough on these fora to know that the professionals here tend to frown on the idea of several lamps from...

    Cooker Control Unit, etc.

Thanks, just to verify then (about to order parts) I'll connect the hob to a cooker outlet plate then and the oven (a single oven only) to a fused spur. Both the outlet plate and the fused psur will be fed from the switched cooker control unit. Does this sound reasonable? Thanks :)

    Cooker Control Unit, etc.

Sorry, I'm installing a completely new circuit. I have the new CCU and I want to be able to disable the cooker and the hob with the switch on the CCU. What I need to know is how to exit the cable from the CCU. I don't want to just exit the cable from the plastered wall like the previous...

New combi installed. How to disconnect pipes?

Hi, I had a new combi installed a few weeks ago. The installer left me a couple of stopped pipes to extend to my new kitchen sink and left the old ones in for me to remove when I was ready. I'm now ready to cut off the old pipes but how can I do this? Can I just shut off the mains water to...

    Cooker Control Unit, etc.

Hi, Can someone give me an overview of how best to connect up a cooker physically? I've got no problem with the cabling, etc. but I do need to connect up an electric oven and a hob and while I have what is described in one place as a cooker switch socket, and another, a CCU, there is also the...

Channeling the wall for 2.5mm cable

Interesting. So if I want to bed cable in my wall, I need to use metal capping, is that right? I'm sure I've seen it, perhaps in B&Q but I can't find anything suitable on Screwfix or ToolStation. Surely by what the regulations say then, I can't even use oval PVC conduit? Thinking about it, a...

Channeling the wall for 2.5mm cable

:D I think I'm getting the point hammered (no pun intended) home! So don't use the angle grinder then :) I have an SDS chisel set which includes a gouge chisel. I'll give that a go but I seem to remember having difficulty with it for some reason. :? It's not exactly a channeling tool like...

Channeling the wall for 2.5mm cable

The square hole cutting tool is a fantastic bit of kit! Just fitted 6 back boxes in less than 2 hours. Sure you electricians might laugh but these boxes usually have me pulling my hair out and taking hours to get them right. Best of all, the boxes are level and the amount of material removed...

Channeling the wall for 2.5mm cable

Hi, I'm doing a few channels in plastered breeze block. I've got an SDS drill/breaker, a channeling tool and an angle grinder, plus I've hired a square hole cutter for the socket boxes. If I'm about to cut the channels for a ring-main circuit, what width/depth would you recommend? I assume...

    Driveway lights

Thanks! The stainless steel ones look great, but a bit too modern for my house I think. I'll check with the wife tomorrow though. :)

    Driveway lights

Hi, I'm just having my driveway done and the contractor is ready to lay bricks tomorrow. I've got two quadrants for flower beds and I've got the guy to lay SWA cable from each quadrant into the house ready to be wired up. I've just driven the car onto the drive and realised that at night...

    Internal wall (garage) needed

Will he care about it if it's an internal wall just to hang the boiler on (for now anyway)? When I'm ready to build the utility room, isn't it then time to involve the building inspector?

    Internal wall (garage) needed

Hi, I'm looking to move my boiler into my garage and in the near-future, make a small amount of the garage into a utility room and downstairs toilet. I'll probably need to position the boiler where a window is so I'll have to block that up. If the area in the garage shown is then made...

Flat Roof - Repair or Renew?

    1. If the old roof was badly damaged it could contain water damage. ===== Agreed. The sections that were leaking have been completely removed. 2. With no roof space access, wiring might be problematic. ===== The existing joists are very deep. Even with the Kingspan fitted up against...
