Would Bitumen Paint help preserve fence posts

I've now posted my design here. In answer to Jake - 6x6 posts, as you say, in a galvanised bolt-down on a concrete foot which is slightly raised. https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/will-it-fall-critique-my-design-please.591740/

Will it fall? Critique my design please

At the risk of being shot down, have I under or over engineered this? Had various other threads on here about my solar mount - now for the final design. I took all your advice :) I am building a "shed" at the back of the garden to keep the lawnmower etc in. On said shed I will be placing 20...

Would Bitumen Paint help preserve fence posts

I've been thinking  If I built the frame then the side-loading would be less and it would not try to pivot itself out of the ground (yes, there could be that storm). Therefore, a concete foot (sloped as you say) with a galvanised post anchor / boot thing that you bolt down. Some nice long...

Would Bitumen Paint help preserve fence posts

You see through my cunning plan..... Yes, I had looked at that because it will actually be easier to get past planning (ground-mount systems are only allowed to be max 9m2). My "rails" are te sides of my unfinished garden "garage". What I am strugling to get right though is the angle. I need...

Would Bitumen Paint help preserve fence posts

This is true. I was not planning to as I wanted the lowest footprint possible. Might rethink. 12m span (100mm x 100mm 1.8m posts) spaced 3.6 with 12 panels on in vertical orientation. Dual stringers between the posts. Not gone Ali rails as I can't find the damned things. Sort of following this...

Would Bitumen Paint help preserve fence posts

This is the concern so I've opted for two to clamp the post between them (tight fit to avoid trying to bend the spur). The spurs will be "paired" North/South so any wind loading should always see one spur under compression. I figured that will be OK? I looked at those, they don't look very...

Would Bitumen Paint help preserve fence posts

Anyone got first hand experience with them? If I use them I'll save around £500 (50%!)in build costs. But, if after 5 years or so the posts fail due to rot, I potentially damage a lot. This is really interesting but nervous about it. As always, the Internet is full of mixed reviews

Would Bitumen Paint help preserve fence posts

That is really interesting. To help with wood preservation I've had to use concrete spurs as the location is damp all the time. If I used two or three of these on the end of a longer wooden post I'll save a lot of money. Thanks!

Would Bitumen Paint help preserve fence posts

Folks, I am building a frame to mount solar panels on and using 100x100 treated fence posts to support it. There will be bolted onto two fence spurs to keep them off the ground. Would bitumen paint such as the below help prolong the posts around the spurs and bolt holes? The panels and kit...

    Which ply to use external

it's a daily challange I struggle with at the moment.... oh, sorry, wrong group!

    Which ply to use external

thanks. Yes, I was going to add a bead to the edges and top. The top I was thinking of giving a decent overhand of around 100-150mm. It will not protect it all but will stop a fair amount I think. Yes, marine grade is silly money at the moment - not that anything is sensible. I will look at...

    Which ply to use external

Folks, I want to build a tennis wall in the garden. I am going to use 3 100x100 posts for the supports and then 3 18mm ply screwed to them. Is all ply the same if I paint it? Anything better than other for perminent outdoor use? C

Want a megaflow - can my old oil heater be a primary heat source?

Thanks @oldbuffer @MeldrewsMate Yes, it's a rather blunt way of doing / describing it. I've seen those options you're referring to and will look more into those. The arrary I am installing is a 6KW PV with a 5KVA invertor. (Overspecced the arrary to improve winter capture). My house "idles"...

Want a megaflow - can my old oil heater be a primary heat source?

Based on this, what should I be looking for in a local plumber or is this a standard setup? I've litrally thrown money down the drain in the past because I got a "generic" guy when I had actually needed a drainage specilist. Don't want to make the same mistake again.

Want a megaflow - can my old oil heater be a primary heat source?

thanks. That makes a lot of sense. For clarity, I am doing research because a) I want to understand if it's possible with my existing setup b) I like to understand how these things work but will be getting a local plumber to do the work. :)

Want a megaflow - can my old oil heater be a primary heat source?

thanks. That makes sense with what I am seeing on the interweb. :) For simplicity, it makes sense to leave the kitchen tap on the boiler (it's located under the counter). The main users of HW are all upstairs - 3 bathrooms. I could put the cylinder in the loft (above the bathrooms). Benfits are...

Want a megaflow - can my old oil heater be a primary heat source?

thanks. From an electrical side of things, I'm ok. I can control the PV invertor to turn on a relay/contactor when the batteries are at 80% (or whatever I want). From memory, it was a while ago when I replaced the thermostat circuit with a smart system (evohome), I remeber seeing a bridge on...

Want a megaflow - can my old oil heater be a primary heat source?

Valid point. See attached No, it's direct (is that a thing?). I seems to have a small hot water store because I can run the hot tap for a few seconds and get hot water before it fires.

Best option for outdoor fused isolator?

Yup. Hidden under the stairs, around 20m from the point it comes outside the house. Quite random.

Best option for outdoor fused isolator?

I dug around and found the fused isolator under the stairs! (y)(y)
