    To undercoat or not

Tell you what ....just try it my way...here goes. Let's take a door casing in good nick/ish, or anything you like really. As I said earlier, dampish sugaur/soap or soda crystals  light rub with 400 (I could get riskier but for now a light rub :) ) Do not scratch with coarse...

    PVA or not...

PVA , can cause a problem under wallpaper dependent on how it's mixed. Yes, you can use paste for size, but, the reason I said use "glue siize" is, that's what it is, "size". It's made for "sizing" walls, prior to papering the walls with paper, pasted with paste. Yes it smells but, I love...

    Day Rate For Painting ?

wet bimbette- I thnk Joe-90's advice about getting 3 quotes is probably the best idea for you as I don't think it would be wise getting a day rate, ...now I'll move on as well to.. The customer First, I'll say I'm now in the fortunate position of only working for good folk as I've...

Large bubbles on ceiling - HELP, please!

Sounds like the paper he's emulsioned over, was undersoaked in the first place or something wrong with the substrate. If someone asks you to emulson a ceiling paper that's already there, then that's what you do. IF it bubbles with vinyl paint it would bubble with anything. If you spray water...

    Day Rate For Painting ?

Mornin' all. I'm now off to paint, a dining room and kitchen. I should get about 3 hours in, before some of these "day raters" start swanning around in paint shops and finally turn up on the job to brew up.

    Day Rate For Painting ?

joe-90 is correct in everything he says here and if you keep looking, you will always get a cheaper quote. Look long enough and someone, somewhere will do it for nothing. Getting a day rate or even enquiring what it is, is asking for trouble. I can have half a room done before most so called...

Can A Diluted Solution Of PVA Be Sprayed ?

Does this "tradesman" (y'know , the 1 with 40 years experience) not have a ferroscope :?: for all this iron ore down your way.. I mean he must have if he's advised you to spray it with PVA and it works for him. He must have known it was full of iron ore to seal it. The ones he hasn't sealed...

Can A Diluted Solution Of PVA Be Sprayed ?

I must get 1 of those ferroscopes for the next time I go to estimate a dash. Could come in real handy looking for that iron ore ..just in case. Then, I'll calculate the materials - that's with and without the pigment.

    Painting new plaster?

Nothing, but nothing, causes more confusion and aggro, than painting new plaster. Nothing. http://www.icipaints.co.uk/products/info/dulux_trade_vinyl_silk.jsp

    painting new plaster

The emulsion you have is not appropriate to seal the plaster with as it's the wrong stuff, So, either use a contract emulsion first and if finishing with the Dulux, make sure the plaster's dry or, use the plaster sealer, only if you're sure the plaster's dry and then continue with the emulsion...

Having said that. I would have, sheeted the roof and satellite dish, masked the window and taped the lead.

Am I going to be sued ?

Let's slow down. Now we all get problems, however - there's 2 sides to every story. How long ago was it since you went round and exactly what is the customers complaint now, to get another decorator to quote it.
