    Airlock?

As mentioned in an earlier thread we've just moved into a nine year old house and I've been draining the brown tar like substance from the heating system (See 'Flush' post a day or so ago). Things were going fine but the filling loop leaked badly from a valve spindle whenever I topped up the...

    Flush?

Just moved into a nine year old house. It has a pressurised cylinder on landing and Ideal boiler Icos HE12 boiler in kitchen cupboard. Pipework's small bore. Bought a bleed key and tried a couple of rads and this is what's coming out - tarry stuff but no sediment. Is this rust or do some...

    Gas regulator outside inspection chamber

Always wondered what they were. All over a village in Lincs where I used to live.

    Thanks all.

    Wireless light switch

Thanks both. This must be it! (with red tracer to switch.) So I could wire it in here? All pretty neat wiring, you'll agree...

    Wireless light switch

Hi Andy You mean junction boxes? I have three at the back of the house but I thought a connection inside the garage would be weathertight. They're all on the same circuit. Is the conclusion that there is no wi-fi 'switch' suitable for this installation?

    Wireless light switch

Ah ok, didn't know about these. Just had a look at one of the lights, though, and the 'bulbs' seem part of the lamp, so I guess they're non exchangeable. Some are doubles too, with a bulb facing up and down, so I guess this would be pretty expensive if, in fact, I did manage to swap them. :-(

    Wireless light switch

What is this witchcraft you speak of? Would I have to replace all the external lights?

    Wireless light switch

OK, ta. This is the wiring inside garage to two of the lights (house has about eight of them). Could I tap into here?

Ah so... Here is what I have.

    Wireless light switch

A conventional on-off light switch operates my outdoor lights but it's housed under the stairs and I want to remotely turn the power on from upstairs, or maybe with a phone app if I'm coming back late. Is this easily do-able? I have pretty solid broadband. I glanced on Amazon and saw this...

    MagnaClean

Hi both Thanks for replies. I had been adding Sentinel save for the last time and I appreciate it's improving efficiency. I was just surprised how little muck was cleaned this time and how dramatic the improvement in heating.

    MagnaClean

I inherited the above in our 'new' house and I've cleaned it maybe six or seven times in five months - excessive, but I don't think it was done before. So the first time it had a lot of muck, second time less, then I had a couple of new rads installed, so was cleaning it in case there was any...

    Blocked Loo

Used to have the same in a large bungalow- the ensuite loo was always doing it. As you say, it's rarely used, so gets away with being under par. I had three manholes which went the length of property. Problem was where one waste pipe pushes into next. There's a rubber seal. This wasn't in...

    New Boiler Installation Certificate

Can't comment on prices as I'm no fitter. But he should be Gas Safe registered (you can look him up on their website) and he should forward boiler details to Gas Safe who will issue a certificate of compliance. When selling a property this will be asked for. I assume, too, he will fill in the...
