    Slate roof repair

Hmmm, seems OK for me, even in a different browser and not logged in. Can anyone else see/not see them?

    Slate roof repair

I'm looking at an old and somewhat rundown house with a slate roof. there is a pretty significant bit of damage to the gable end. I think it looks there was some tree damage that went un-checked and has allowed the timber to rot. The rest of the roof looks ok to my untrained eye, although there...

Is there a height limit/building regs requirements for a detached garage?

There's no way it'll comply with permitted development rules. The limit is 2.5m so unless it was for midgets before it'll now be well over. If its bigger than 30m2 then building regs will also apply. The problem is that the council is pretty toothless and don't really enforce minor breaches...

    Concrete breakers

I've got the titan, which is a brilliant bit of kit. Has gone through absolutely everything I've thrown at it. It does the same thing where the last whack does sound a bit different and possibly have more oomph but the mid strokes still do plenty

    Led Driver selection HELP

As Winston says, pretty much any 12v power supply/driver over an amp will be fine. These LEDs are very forgiving. One with a higher power rating will actually be slightly better so go for the 18w

    Replacing garage roof joist

Its holding up next door's joist as well. They might not be so happy about it

    Replacing garage roof joist

One of the joists in my garage is getting beyond saving and starting to sag so it needs replacing. Its a pair of 3x2s on a 2.7m span so maybe a little under sized too. Ideally I'l replace it with something stiffer. The problem is the slot for the timber is only deep enough for the current sized...

Has anyone bought a council garage before?

Do they allow that? Round here they put property up for auction which keeps the process transparent and hopefully avoids the risk of dodgy dealings. Its pretty straight forward. Just need to remember all the fees which can be a high percentage on a low value property.

    Shaver socket for toothbrushes

I'm looking to for a shaver socket in the bathroom. It'll pretty much be exclusively for charging toothbrushes. I'm trying to get a handle on the current regs. Does it still need to be a standard transformer style shaver socket and are these OK for toothbrushes? I have read about some getting a...

    Double layer plasterboard backbox

Mine didn't, and I used 47mm boxes. I had to cut the rear plasterboard away, which is actually quite tricky when working from the front through the hole.

    Upgrade garage lighting

Junction box is the easy way. Just connect up the battens to the existing supply. LEDs are very low power so you could theoretically connect up loads off one switch before over rating it. I put up 4 4ft led battens in my garage. The light output is great. They were about £25 each.

    Strongest gravel boards?

Gravel boards won't be very strong and will likely bow in that application. Sleepers will be better.

    Router

Can you really not make your existing router fit? You can drill extra holes in the mounting plate or make up some clamps. If it really can't fit then I'd go for something second had rather than a cheap new one. Dewalt, elu or trend

    Mitre Saw

The evolution Is fine, yes it isn't makita quality but it isn't makita price either. It'll cut square, the bevel/mitre cut works. You can cut a range of materials. Its also quite compact so you can move it round the house easily. Its a good tool for the money.

    New power supply to garage

There is a benefit to having the garage on a separate RCD but if the shower is on the same RCD as the kitchen ring then there is little point in making the change.

    Garden Office

You'd never be able to cut a notch like that in a lightweight block without it cracking, luckily its not needed. A squarish building that size won't need piers either. Just build it, it'll be fine. Its also small enough to be exempt from building regs so won't matter when you sell. Any electrics...
