Has anyone bought a council garage before?

The trouble with buying any council property in a block, whether it be a house/flat/maisonette is when it comes to the time when the roof/windows/common areas etc need to be replaced. The private owners often get a bill for their share running into the thousands and they have no say in who does the work and at what price. I would imagine a garage in a block would suffer the same problems so be careful!
Already rent it, so want to purchase it
Do they allow that? Round here they put property up for auction which keeps the process transparent and hopefully avoids the risk of dodgy dealings.
Its pretty straight forward. Just need to remember all the fees which can be a high percentage on a low value property.
