    Electro Oil Sterling 50 Burner

It wouldn't have worked in our case as it's not gravity fed. The tank's about a metre below the boiler, so you have to go through the plastic/rubber pipe from the pump into glass jar and repeatedly start it until the bubbles stop coming...

    Electro Oil Sterling 50 Burner

So have - or will - Oftec. I stopped his cheque too. Now waiting for any reaction from the man. (whose name I shan't mention but it's Cliff Roffey) Dyson now functioning after pre-motor filter and cyclone washed out, scrubbing floor at 21:00 and awaiting new filter for Bosch vacuum cleaner...

    Electro Oil Sterling 50 Burner

I rang Oftec - he's not registered though he claims to be on his ebay adverts. Google "boiler service charlwood", comes top of the list here. Scroll down. You were certainly right about the snow too!

    Electro Oil Sterling 50 Burner

Hi Oilman, Well, this guy claims Oftec registration on his e-bay entry - http://tinyurl.com/dnc46a. I've reported him to that organisation so we'll see. Forgive me but why shouldn't we stop the cheque? Will he have a come back? Thanks, I've checked the filters, all is good, clean...

    Electro Oil Sterling 50 Burner

Trading standards and Oftec duly informed. Boiler now running after I simply purged the supply from tank. Have discovered that this guy has clogged the cyclone in our Dyson (which should never be used for soot) and punctured the filter in our Bosch wet and dry vacuum. He had screwed the...

    Electro Oil Sterling 50 Burner

Actually, when the guy left his advice was that I should get a new burner as spares can't be bought for our Sterling 50....... I think my wife should stop the cheque she gave him.

Or rather that the screw for the B9 was plastic....

I should learn to read - you clearly stated that the screw was plastic in your earlier post, sorry :(

    Electro Oil Sterling 50 Burner

Brilliant - thanks oilman, I now see how this damper works, sliding as you said. Is the screw which moves it plastic? The "Heating Engineer" who charged us £120 and left the boiler stuffed full of soot and not working said that it was plastic and that we needed a new one. The story...

    Electro Oil Sterling 50 Burner

Thanks oilman. Ours is a Sterling 50. On the exploded diagram of the burner there's a flat plat with a pin through it. It's not identified on the short parts list - am I right in thinking this is the shutter?

    Electro Oil Sterling 50 Burner

OK, it worked beautifully until the oil ran out - then made massive amounts of soot. The guy (I was away from home) who worked on it said that the "shutter" was broken. Is that the flap in the intake pipe? Thanks!
