    Wheel Alignment.

Another positive for the drive over alignment tool is it takes away any error caused by a defect or buckle on the wheel rim as it literally just "detects" the "pull/twist" of the tyre against the road. I have a Trackace and it is ok but I find the laser too dim (maybe green would be better?) and...

    Wheel Alignment.

I agree they are not that repeatable, to an extent, but they do give a very quick indication of whether it is toeing in or out but more importantly they account for a certain amount of wear too and as such are "dynamic". Generally a front wheel drive needs to be toeing out when static and rear...

    Wheel Alignment.

DIY alignment is not only possible but preferable in my opinion (tyre places often only adjust one side). To re-centre my steering wheel, if it's never been removed, both wheels should be "steered" in the same direction that the steering wheel is biased towards. What I mean by this is if the...

Sizing radiators for Victorian terrace and future heat pump

You can get 65 degree single stage or 80 degree centigrade two stage heat pumps these days and both will create water hot enough to heat an old house with standard rads. Even the basic monoblock systems run at 50 degrees these days. I personally have an 80 degree system and I've turned it down...

    King Charles III state cars

King Charles is using vintage State Cars, is there any more accurate information other than Wikipedia as to which ones he is using? The car in Edinburgh for example appears to have the bonnet mascot from the Queens Bentley, a George & Dragon and yet the car looks like it might be the 1950 Rolls...

    Undersealing recomendations

With a car that already has surface rust, my thought is that is exactly how to deal with it. I like XCP, the original one not the clearcoat. It soaks in well to old rust but leaves much less residue than some of the more waxy rust proofers. I tend to buy a top up every month or so too and spray...

repairing a gate post in middle of a 6ft panel fence

It might be an idea to use steel strapping to attached the wooden post to the concrete one (unless it has holes). Toolstation does "field gate straps" that might suit if you can't get to an iron mongers. I wouldn't drill the concrete post though if I were you, apart from weakening it, you might...

repairing a gate post in middle of a 6ft panel fence

I think you are correct that drilling the fence post, weakened it. I would replace with actual gate posts. To secure hinges you can get them with holes through them for using nuts and bolts either direct to the hinges or to secure a wooden post to. You could also use wooden gate posts but I...

Portable AC unit icing up on side

This refers to home AC but the same applies to a portable unit. Have you been using it without the mesh filter, does it have any fluff/lint on the evaporator? https://grovehvac.com/why-is-my-ac-evaporator-coil-freezing-up/#:~:text=The%20most%20common%20reason%20for,are%20closed%20in%20your%20home.

Portable AC unit icing up on side

That to me looks like a poor airflow issue, is the unit run with a filter mesh panel and when there is no ice there, is there fluff and lint blocking the airflow through the evaporator? If there is, the best way is to jet it out with compressed air.

    Headlights oxidising

Get some E-Tech Headlight clear coat. You don't even need to get much of a gloss on the headlight before you spray it on because it dries glossy anyway. Even normal clear lacquer is pretty good at stopping it oxidizing again though

I'm pretty sure the white bit is a plastic cover that will come off if you pull it (quite hard) directly upwards. Underneath should be the heads of the two screws holding it on

Buying 2 boxes of 100 from Wickes will cost you more than a box of 1000 from Toolstation

    Hotpoint washing machine not spinning

Have you checked if the filter is blocked or a drain issue of some sort? Washing machines tend to abort the spin if they have not emptied fully and its not always obvious by looking in the drum.

Help identifying object in chimney breast

Not sure if it helps but when i ripped the floors up in my 1950's house, a concrete slab had been formed in between two (Extra thick) wooden joists to make a hearth for the fire places in the upstairs bedrooms. each weighed at least 300kgs so it seemed very odd to have them supported on wooden...
