    Load and Supply

Yeah, thought so. What are the repercussions of wiring it in this way? I have also found a spur in the kitchen with the twin and earth wired directly into a standard plug. This has all been uncovered as I'm ripping the old kitchen out. How dodgy is that.

    Load and Supply

I have just checked the wiring inside a fused switch which is powering the lights under the kitchen worktops. Where it says LOAD I take it that means the mains voltage coming in and SUPPLY means the supply going out to power to the lights.

    Cutting Slate Floor Tiles

Thanks for the reply. Ordered a 600w cheapo tile cutter saw from Screwfix. Should do the trick.

    Cutting Slate Floor Tiles

Hi Can anyone advise on the best way to cut a slate floor tile with a manual tile cutter without the tile breaking in completely the wrong place. As slate consists of different layers of stone running in different directions I am wondering if the only successful way is to use an automated...

    Replacing Central Heating Pump

Hi There The circulating pump on our central heating sysytem finally gave up the ghost this morning in spectacular grinding, noisy fashion, followed by a burning smell. Just wondering how easy is it to replace - is it just a question of the two pump valves above and below and swapping it...

    Finishing paper on painted surface

Recently lined a wall with 1000 grade paper and painted with a vinyl matt finish. There has now been a change of plan, and a finishing paper has been chosen. Can this be directly pasted onto the painted lining paper, or will I have to strip the whole lot, cross line and then hang the finishing...

    Painting glass panel doors

I have four internal doors to paint, and was wondering what the most efficient and neatest way of going about it. They are the 15 panel glazed doors. I thought of taking the paint slightly onto the glass, and when dry using a blade to scrape the paint off the glass. (as there seems to be a...

    Load of Brolacs

Funny how a question on Brolacs can evoke so many memories of the past. Must say the paint is an absolute joy to work with. The coverage is on a par with the Dulux trade emulsions, and it had a very high pigment content. As you say Zampa, if they are phasing this product out it will be a real...

    Load of Brolacs

Hi Does anyone know of a brand of paint called Brolac? A client has supplied me with tins of the stuff but I have never heard of it let alone used it. It is called PEP Silk Emulsion. Would be good to hear of any comments relating to the product. Many thanks

    OIL BASED MESS

Thanks for the advice Zampa. I would never have thought of burning the paint off the kettles, let alone using the knotting for a finish. But I suppose when you think about it, it's logical. Invaluable. Many thanks.

    OIL BASED MESS

Hi, Can someone advise on the most efficient way of cleaning up the following: 1) After applying an oil based paint for some considerable time, the brush gets clogged towards the stock end which means the bristles are not performing that well. I use a Purdy's synthetic brush which sits in a...

    Fixing a handrail

I have a stair handrail which I need to fix onto the wall. It is of the sort without brackets, basically just a 3 metre length of wood which was originally nailed to the wall with what looks like 5 inch floorboard nails. How would you recommend fixing this back on the wall? I am thinking of...

    Low Mains Pressure

Thanks croydoncorgi. Yes, the pressure does reduce after the tap is turned on. However, it reduces from a very low pressure to an even less pressure. Takes about 15 seconds to fill a pint glass. They say some things are worth waiting for, but a pint of water is not one of them...

    Low Mains Pressure

The internal stop cock has always been jammed in the full open position, which is why it is probably jammed in the first place. The only thing which had changed was the installation of the ballcock in the loft tank and the turning of the outside stop cock. How would I check where the...

    Low Mains Pressure

I recently replaced the ball cock in the water tank in the loft. As the internal stopcock under the stairs was so stiff it could not be turned, the water supply was shut off from the mains stopcock outside the property. When the water supply was turned on again, the water pressure in the...
