Hi Guys, I just want to double check my understanding before I start this small piece of work. I have got few spike lights setup in the garden which I want to turn on automatically at dusk and adjust the swtiched on time from few hours to dawn. Toolstation is selling IP44 dusk to dawn switch...

Air admittance valve McAlpine VP50p vs VP100.. which one is better

Hi I have really foul smell coming in the kitchen from last 2 months. Smell doesn't come everyday and every time but most days. Sink has got P traps installed etc and I suspect the air admittance valve has gone wrong. Soil pipe is terminating inside kitchen just above the sink level and hidden...

a very slow dripping from joint. how to fix it. Can't be tightened

Don't know where I admitted that. However I failed to mention that douche kit was installed initially by "certified" plumber during renovation .. thought it is not important to question so didn't mention. Of course not being a plumber, one has to trust professionals or end up questioning every...

a very slow dripping from joint. how to fix it. Can't be tightened

In toolstation, I have seen "Evo-stik Plumber's mait" with description - A waterproof non setting putty ideal for sealing spigot and socket joints in sanitary fittings. Will adhere to metal, pcv, vitreous enabels and ceramics. They cannot provide any advice or help of course... but this sounds...

a very slow dripping from joint. how to fix it. Can't be tightened

it was quite difficult to put it in place to attach the douche kit's valve with wooden unit. This involved female coupler to tighten the valve against unit, then a socket attached to a coupler's thread (this is where a slow leak is) and then flexible hose is connected to other end of socket...

a very slow dripping from joint. how to fix it. Can't be tightened

There is drop of water dripping every 10 minutes from a joint between socket and valve. (as shown in the picture). This was put in place using ptfe tape and tightened to the end. It cannot be tightened any further or remove and refitted with more tape etc. I believe the leak is so small that it...

TRV on the return side.. don't know if they are bidirectional. Pic attached

Good idea Ian. I have not seen horizontal TRVs anywhere but guess it won't look too odd if I have to do it on one or two rads. Just to confirm my understanding, switching position of TRV means partial or full draining of system unless I close the cold water inlet feed to F&E tank and bung cold...

Sometimes water dripping from expansion overflow and sometimes sudden water discharge

Thanks for sharing the link. So if I understood correctly, expansion U pipe is for air vent and I should expect some water rise from the bottom of the tank via cold outlet instead. I recently cleaned the F&E tank full of black sludge and some algae built up over time. CH system was drained last...

TRV on the return side.. don't know if they are bidirectional. Pic attached

Well, I live in an estate built by builder, so I am not surprised if they have used trade valves for all the houses here. It's valve to be set using L N key. Though as others suggest, I'll try turning TRVs when heating is on to check any noise. If no noise, then I am relaxed and no need to...

Sometimes water dripping from expansion overflow and sometimes sudden water discharge

Thanks for the advise. I'll replace the valve tomorrow.. and set the level Just to clarify my doubt.... the expansion pipe (inverted U shape) is just T off from the cold outlet. When water expands, should I expect water dripping from U shape expansion pipe or from the opening of cold water...

TRV on the return side.. don't know if they are bidirectional. Pic attached

Also I noticed, LSV has got similar arrow... some pointing upward and some downward and all installed vertically. Now the issue is.. same LSV and TRV installed in 10 out of 14 radiators and they are in all possible combinations... e.g. one radiator has got TRV and LSV arrow pointing downards...

TRV on the return side.. don't know if they are bidirectional. Pic attached

Hi, I have got 14 radiators in total and three of them have got TRVs installed on the return side. 2 of them are downstairs which are not heating up too much as compared to all other radiators. I went through balancing myself (have to do it again little better this time). Could anyone please...

Sometimes water dripping from expansion overflow and sometimes sudden water discharge

I noticed a drop dripping from valve every 3 seconds or so even when valve is fully pushed up with hand. I am going to replace it. Just to check, if I cock up replacement, is there any harm in leaving the cold water inlet to the F&E tank switched off for few days until plumber is called? And is...

Sometimes water dripping from expansion overflow and sometimes sudden water discharge

Hi, I have: - - an open vented central heating system with F&E tank in the loft. - Sealed cylinder hot water (megaflow). Guess it won't matter with the issue explained below - Boiler is flexicom hx30 heat only. Most often (but not absolutely everytime), water drips from the expansion tank...

No filling loop and red expansion vessel installed. How to represurrize heating?

Thanks everybody for all the replies. This thread has cleared my mis understanding about the CH system. So I have got open vented CH along with unvented indirect hot water. Yesterday I got my system drained partially again to change one of the lockshield valve and refilled it. Boiler reading...

No filling loop and red expansion vessel installed. How to represurrize heating?

first of all, one thing has got very clear in my mind is that I have got open vented central heating system along with unvented indirect hot water megnaflo. So due to bit of confusion, there's one step missed yesterday whilst filling the CH system after draining. Sequence I followed was: - 1)...

No filling loop and red expansion vessel installed. How to represurrize heating?

so is pressure in heating system maintained by ball valve inside tank? I haven't checked the water in tank as it covered and secured with strings. Can do that.. should I expect water there ALWAYS?
