Blocked vent pipe in open system?

Hi Again. Apologies for the crappy sketch! My central heating system has become noisy. It happens when the hot water valve opens. The pump starts and I can hear water running near the coil in the cylinder. It sounds like there is a load of air trapped. It has only happened recently...

    Water pours out help!!

When we puchased a new washer, ours did exactly the same. (cost us a new carpet). Almost all washers are filled via the soap drawer. The solenoid which controls the flow of water sometimes will not cope with very high pressure / flow water. (Are the taps in your new house flowing much...

    Horstmann H37 battery replacement.

Hi Again. My Uncle has a Horstmann H37 three zone programmer / timer. These are fitted with a back-up battery. The battery has a 10 year life and is "non-replaceable" It has come to the end of it's life and now has to be reprogrammed after each power failure. To save expense (New...

    worn down rad bleed valve

Hi There. Somebody else had a similar problem and found this helpful. Mix some good quality epoxy. Araldite or similar and glue the key onto the valve overnight. Next morning, it should remove the valve. You will of course need a new valve and key. Ian.

    Radiator replacement size.

Hi there. It has a TRV on it. currently set at 3 / 5 so the current radiator is big enough to do the job. Its just inconveniently long and VERY close to the edge of the door when opening. I was just after the size that would still do a good job but more compact. e.g. 600mm x 700mm K1...

    Radiator replacement size.

Hi Folks. I'm sorry, I cant find a table of outputs old enough. My current (old) bathroom radiator is a single panel with NO fins. 600mm high, 900mm long. keeps the bathroom lovely & warm all seasons. We're having a bathroom re-fit and due to its very small size, I was thinking if a...

TRVs Information please on how they work.

Hi Folks. Nothing urgent, Just wondering...... Set my TRVs so the room is at about 21 degrees. Boiler fires up heats radiator etc. How does the TRV sense the room temperature accurately when there is a pipe directly underneath it at about 80 degrees C ? Surely the air around the...

    Rad bleed nips stuck

I'm not a heating engineer but here's my suggestion. Off to the local plumbers merchant and buy several cheap rad keys. (Lot cheaper than new radiators). Clean the nips of all grease / oil. Mix araldite and put a little in each key and glue them onto the nips, bracing in place...

LPG. Combi or Conventional CH / DHW best?

Hi htgeng. Thanks for the fast reply. "Don't get a combi if you're on LPG" Any paticular reason? Is LPG not very efficient compared to oil? oil boilers are a mystery to me. The bungalow we're looking at does have a wood burning stove, but it hasn't any facility to heat the water. We...

LPG. Combi or Conventional CH / DHW best?

Newbie here so I'll try to be brief and to the point. My wife & I are contemplating a house move to Scotland. It is an area with no mains gas. We are moving to a 2/3 bed bungalow. I have (in our current house) converted from a gravity HW and pumped CH to a fully pumped system with 2...
