    Painting shed door

Hi, I have a rotten shed door which is made from tongue and groove wood (basically floor boards). I want to build a new door with cheap floorboards from B&Q. Do I need to treat the boards with something before I paint them, or is paint designed for exterior woodwork enough? Thanks M

    Shelf support ring

Where can I find a "shelf support ring" like this? (These plug into sockets on the bookcase). If I knew exactly what these were called, I might be able to find them myself! :) Thanks M

    Need new lawn mower

Thanks. The Honda looks interesting and seems to get good reviews. Are there any good and reasonably priced mowers that now come with a grass box rather than a bag. I had a leaf collector and the bag got eaten by rodents in my shed :-(. They are not so into plastic boxes! Here's the damage...

    Need new lawn mower

Is there any reason not to buy a Mountfield petrol mower from B&Q? My last mower, a Hayter, which I have had for 15 years has finally given up the ghost (the chassis is rusted through - there is a large hole and grass shoots out the top of the chassis!). I have repaired the Hayter many times...

Where to get inline slider dimmer?

Thanks. It didn't occur to me that these were called "foot dimmers" - the one I have I operate by hand! :D The TLC one is not a slider. M.

Where to get inline slider dimmer?

I would like to find an inline slider dimmer such as the one in the photo I know you can get touch sensitive dimmers and remote control dimmers, but I would really like one with a slider. Does anyone know where to find one please? Thanks M.

Compression Joints - how tight and which type of olive?

I am never sure how tight to make these joints - I have read hand tight plus a quarter turn, but this never seems tight enough - do I just keep tightening until the dripping stops? It seems to be worse with cheap connectors. E.g. I have a washing machine tee from toolstation (15mm x 15mm x...

Removal of unused brick septic tank

I appear to have a septic tank at the end of my kitchen under the floor. (The end of the kitchen used to be an outside toilet). There is one loose brick so I removed it to look inside and I can see that it has been filled in with rubble. The top of the tank has been covered in concrete to...

Under-cabinet lights - LED or Fluorescent?

Thanks Steve and Click Sure. It does seem that there are some extremely bright LEDs around, such as the Seoul P7 which seems to emit about 900 lumens at 10 Watts. However, the cheapest is £9 plus postage for the raw, naked LED. It would need heatsinking and a power supply. (e.g...

Under-cabinet lights - LED or Fluorescent?

What kind of lighting is suitable these days for under kitchen cabinets bearing in mind I want something very bright, not pathetic lighting you sometimes see installed in new kitchens? Should I go for LED or is fluorescent still the best answer? T4 Cabinet lights look to be the cheapest...
