Hi,

I have a rotten shed door which is made from tongue and groove wood (basically floor boards). I want to build a new door with cheap floorboards from B&Q.

Do I need to treat the boards with something before I paint them, or is paint designed for exterior woodwork enough?

Thanks

M

Hi, i'm a diyer, not a pro...

but i think you need to consider the following:

wood stain - designed to colour the wood - but read the tin, it may protect the timber too...

Wood treatment - designed to protect the timber, and may have a colour pigment too... read the tin?

Varnish - designed to protect the timber, also may be slightly coloured.

Paint - designed for many purposes... some will protect the wood, but most will struggle to keep the weather out for too long without regular maintenance...

There will be many resources on line for you to look at.. consider the WIKI on here for one?
