    What paint for Fascias?

Going to paint the fascias and replace the guttering around my house but they aren't wood and they aren't UPVC either. They have been painted in bright blue and so look awful. Would a regular exterior gloss on top of the existing paint after rubbing down be OK or can you recommend a system The...

Chimney breast BR - what if previous work already done?

I'm sure all BCO's are different but ours didn't mention the fact the ground floor chimney breast had been removed without any permissions and an old piece of wood supporting it. They were just interested in making sure we did it correctly when we removed the top floor section

    Chimney flashing for idiots

Sorry but I'm not 100% with the terminology around roofing, by soaker do you mean the sheet of lead that can be seen sitting over the roof tiles and up the side of the chimney and joined in the mortar joints, or is there more going on under the lead than I have under stood? I'm not going to...

Is lead seal a better bet than mortar to fix the lead?

    Chimney flashing for idiots

Here is a picture, it looks like the stepped flashing on the side has come dislodged. Does it look like it can be put back or does it need replacing? Does it look as if it has been done correctly and so I can just put it back how it looked like it was originally? Many Thanks Adam

    Chimney flashing for idiots

Water is leaking down my chimney in heavy rain. I'm going to get a tower and roof ladder and have a look next week. The roof is standard UK tiles, very much like this The chimney is joined to next door(semi detached house) and comes through the roof just below the ridge. The flashing...

DieDetrich Double Oven - 30c under temp

Hi, I've got a De Detrich DMP50 oven. It appears to work perfectly except the main oven doesn't get up to temperature. The oven seems to think it does, I set the temp on the display and it heats up and beeps when hot and holds a temperature but the temperature it holds is around 30 degrees...

Over pressurising CH and DHW hot-cold-hot

There is only one feed into the boiler it then must be split up to the DHW and the filling loop. I'll have a look to see if there is any way in the boiler to isolate it separably Adam

Over pressurising CH and DHW hot-cold-hot

it didn't rise as such with the heating off but it just didn't drop as it got cold so I suppose its the same thing. is there any way other than to take it apart and look to see if its the HE passing the water or the diverter or do you think its pretty much certain that its the HE? I can...

Over pressurising CH and DHW hot-cold-hot

Thanks for the help so far, This weekend I turned the cold in back on and had the heating on but didn't run the hot tap at all and the pressure in the CH rose. This, to me as a non boiler engineer, suggests it might not be the HE as the water didn't pass through it Is this right? or is the...

Over pressurising CH and DHW hot-cold-hot

Stopped off at the house this morning to see what the pressure is cold and it was still up at a little over 3 bar. I think this confirms that water must be leaking across to the CH system? The filling key is out and has been all the time. Does this just leave the secondary HE or can the diverter...

Over pressurising CH and DHW hot-cold-hot

I've had the pipe to the expansion vessel off and it was clear. To clear the vessel I turned the isolators off where the pipes enter the boiler and drained it with the PRV as I pumped the vessel up. Thinking about it I suppose if the vessel is on the other side of the pump to the PRV then the...

Over pressurising CH and DHW hot-cold-hot

Hi, Its a Worcester 35CDI MK2 combi, in our new house, installed about 5 years ago according to the paper work that was with it The hot water was cutting in and out and with help from here I took off the secondary plate heat exchanger and de-scaled. This seemed to fix the problem. We...

How thick does steel protection have to be?

3mm! What are they protecting from? Bullets? Safe plates are at most 18g (1.25mm, .049") doesn't sound like much but without a nail gun you'll do well to get a nail through it and hit it with a drill and it'll slow you down enough to notice, a masonry drill won't get through easily

Worcester 35 CDI II Boiler HW hot-cold-hot-cold-hot-cold

Right I mesured the resistance of the thermistor and it was 20k (red one) it's pretty chilly so I think that's about right. I tried venting the pump and no air came out. I've got the heat exchanger off and I'll get some descaler in it soon. The water in it was clean so I think it must be...

Worcester 35 CDI II Boiler HW hot-cold-hot-cold-hot-cold

Ok so it seems I need to take the heat exchanger off. I didn't buy the inhibitor because it was cheap but because it was what screwfix do and the kit to add it to the system is very cheap. I have no money left after refurbing this house. As for oil, until 3 months ago I restored £1m+ historic...
